Underwhelming - The whole game is now a side quest

Watching streamers play, and the story is I think weaker right now than it’s ever been. It’s basically put wow on hold, and borrowed wow’s game engine to create a completely weird version of wow. The entire expansion’s story is reading like a side quest now.

That’s weird because that’s exactly the opposite feeling I’m getting from wow. Right now it feels the most like wow it has ever felt in a long time. Shadowlands was wow if you bought it on wish.

We’re finally stepping away from cosmic and alternate reality contrivances into something that’s a bit more localized and not immediately world-threatening.

Raszageth is dangerous but even more so if she’s able to leave the Dragon Isles.

I personally like this shift in focus.

Forgetting Shadowlands already? :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

That’s…fine? Little quests are great.

Like I said, a side quest. Like the threat isn’t even here. Weak story.

I don’t feel this at all. This feels like wow to me, We are going around making things better. We are on an adventure. Letting things play out. Doing what we can to help others. Exploring.

We are not a commander.
We are not a god called maw walker.
We are not the leader of our class.

All we are a simple explorer. A problem solver, and with a curious mount, we explore.

Tell me what is not to love?

Sorry you feel that way. I’m enjoying the story more than SL so far.

SL was pretty bad, so I don’t necessarily detest your response, but this is missing a big piece of something.

How can you reasonably one-up or even match the “entire cosmos” on a threat level without getting eventually numb to spectacle creep?

It’s one of the reasons people hated Shadowlands was becaues it all felt so out of this world that none of the stakes really felt tangible. on top of mr nipples beign behind everything all along.

Its funny people complaining about story in mmo … no matter how you justify it … in the end you gonna be killing stuff for gear. Not much story needed

Well, people have been asking for a more grounded, “Return to Azeroth” type of story for years. I guess nobody provided enough of the opposite feedback, so here we are.

Are…you playing at all?

I wouldn’t treat a stream, or any sort of playthrough done by someone else, as gospel.

Do you know what I remember most about Pre Cata WoW? The silly sidequests. I STILL have my Sword of Mastery and Linken’s Boomerang from that Un’Goro quest that sent you all over the place.

You know what else I remember? The Wyrmrest story and the war against Malygos. I grinded that rep and saved that gold back in the day for the Red Drake because I loved the idea of being a Dragon knight.

So guess what I am now in DragonFlight? The same. Guess which quest has stood out to me? Helping a Red Whelpling fix their plush. It was silly and goofy and “doesn’t matter” but it’ll stay with me far more than a lot of the “Epic” stuff will.

Biggest issue I see with your argument is you don’t make one. It’s just “It doesn’t feel like WoW to me.” Well, okay, why? What is it that feels so off? That the stakes haven’t continued to escalate? Is that really it? What comes after fighting the gods of the afterlife in the escalation of power?

The problem for me was just the missed chances. I wanted to see Garrosh, vs arthas or just arthas coming back and talking to players more, and being part of a epic storyline.

Picture this we went to the land of death, and we did not get hardly anything to show for major lore figures in history that died. No epic storyline with them.

The biggest crime for shadowland is the wasted potential

This trend of thinking it’s cool to be dissatisfied with everything is so bazaar.
Are these people just miserable all the time, or only when they have an audience? And what’s worse, “misery loves company” so other miserable people chime in as well. psst, you’re not strapped to your chair you know.
Honestly, if you can’t find the positive things in life, it’s going to be one long hell ride for you.

The story will never be major or deep in WoW again. But I dont think you can gage that from watching a steamer.

From what I played on the beta, the story was actually nice and felt more WoW and fantasy than SL or even BFA ORRRR Legion. I think you are just waking up to what WoW is and what it offers and just dislike it.

One can only build up a reality shattering enemy of the cosmos for so long.

Having there be a door behind every door is just annoying.

Unless something awful happens, Shadowlands will forever be the lowest point of WoW’s story. I cannot stress enough how much it damaged the lore.

That said, we don’t have enough of Dragonflight’s story yet to judge how good it is. Except that so far it definitely seems better than Shadowlands. I’m sure I’ll have complaints down the road…

Man.

Man.

Maaaaaaaan.

This cannot be said enough that Shadowlands was a fanservice bomb waiting to go off and they didn’t even do that much with it.

Garrosh went out like the dissapointment he always was, No Suma Silentstrike, No Nazgrim and Taylor reunion, nothing with Dezco, Baine didn’t even get his quest he was supposed to…

Just an all around failure.
