So I see blizz has still learned nothing about the whole borrowed power thing, we get this incredibly underwhelming Ring… But fear not eventually it will be good, then to be replaced in s2.
Why was the ring not given to us at the start of the expansion and kept the entire time? What is the point of farming this for weeks to build it up then to immediately replace it in the next patch?
GG… Just keep repeating the same mistakes until the rest of us finally say we’re good.
Rant over.

It should be viable up to and through S2 heroic raid.

To give the people that still need a bit more power to complete S1 content something to work towards at the end of the season.
Good no. But its more engaging than just doing end of season nerfs like they used to do

Direct quote from Blizzard: Our goal here is to make the ring a clear choice for the remainder of Season 1, as well as keeping it relevant in Season 2, where it should compete with Heroic raid gear and be replaced by drops from the Mythic raid and high M+ dungeons.
People logged in and got a ring with timegated gems, which is for most people a large dps loss this week. They could have given us the gems then timegated the ILVL increase items to 1 per week or something, and there would have been much less complaining from the playerbase.

It makes no sense to not have all the gems be available from the start. Gating the ilevel of ring weekly seems fine.

oh look! an undiscovered island after x thousands of years that the inhabitants of this place didn’t know about until the moment the outlanders arrived.
forbidden reach 2.0 MINUS flying. really?
so we have to scuttle about the island, chasing rares again that are in annoyingly placed caves, hoping we can get there before the mob takes them down in an effort to get an apparently random gem that might or might not be useful to us.
i guess its good that we at least seem to farm a fair amount of valorstones.
you can see the meetings:
“give them vrykul. they love vrykul”
but if we have vrykul, then do we have val’kyr? and if so, then do we get sylvanas back?

Isn’t this how it actually is? You get 4 gems and 1 upgrade stone per week?
Sounds like it’s not worth the time? Maybe just skip it.
Wrong - the ring exists as an attempt by Blizzard to use some new borrowed power coupled with time gates to ‘force’ players to stay subscribed and active at the end of the season.
Will it work?
Who knows as the combination of an underwhleming ring at the start with all the time gates makes their intent to keep people subbed so obvious, quite a few seem to be willing to just take a month or two off and come back later.

It’s actually not worth it if you have a mythic track ring, and unless they buff it pretty high it’s not gonna be worth it at all considering it will be replaced the first week of s2 with a delve vault reward.
This ring is no different than the gear you farm each and every season. It will ALL be replaced, not just the ring.

My hot take is that there’s secretly very few with ilvl above 630
This for all of us, me included, who saw this as a major upgrade
I was rocking an adventurer grade previously

That’s exactly what they should have done.

All of the gems should be available week 1 and only the ilvl time gated. The ring is viable for some and completely awful for others right now.
I prefer it this way. Having it the whole expansion is the definition of borrowed power and then we’re stuck with our balancing based around the peformance of the ring. Having it a little boost for a small amount of time is much better IMO.
if that is their goal they failed spectacularly.
That isn’t correct. Kelani’s latest video states 4 gems per week for three weeks (total of 12 gems), which jibes with my experience doing all the weeklies, events, and rares that were available last night and only getting 4 gems total.
But yeah, the ring was a serious downgrade for my 617 tank.
It does make sense. What good is the ring if it’s a 1.5% dps loss compared to just my Heroic rings? Why even have it at all now if it’s entirely useless?
Players were excited about it…they logged in, did the content, come to find out it’s worthless until Blizz decides to “put the rest of the gems in.” That’s terrible.
They don’t like it when we have nice things.
