Understanding Different Languages

I love the fact that we have different idioms in the game according to your race… Still, in practice, it serves only to block our communication between factions. Is there any way to understand different languages?

There is a potion you can buy that makes it so you can see alliance chat for a hour or so, they cant see what you say unless they have the same potion.

TBH it would have been neat if they had a scrib profession that would allow you to understand other races language the more you improved like in archeage.

Two Warlocks dueling, cast Curse of Tongues on each other, you now both speak demonic. Two Demon Hunters on opposite faction can do this too.

Broken Shore Dalaran’s underbelly has a vendor that sells potions for that. Just be aware that if there is some kind of pvp thing going on you will get jumped.

Seems like every time I have to go down there it is on.

Bur the bur bur bur.

Honestly, at this point there’s no reason for Blizzard to block cross faction communication behind anything outside of PvP scenarios.

All the major NPCs talk to each other all the time without the potion. Somehow everyone from all races can understand all the quest item text on some scrap papers. They could have just made the languages a “LORE” thing and just leave it there.

That’s different in PvP cuz the chat could be leaking info to the opposite faction, so make up a reason like, during PvP, all characters talk in their faction’s secret code or something. You will only see gibberish text like what we are still seeing today on opposite faction chat.

It’s extremely stupid that for example, blood elf knows how to speak Orcish. It’s just not a Blood Elf thing to do. Different background reasons for different races, this is simply not a good way to do it.

Demon Hunters can speak cross faction to each other in Demonic, Pandaren can speak cross faction in the Pandaren language, and blood elves and void elves can speak cross faction in Thalassian.

There’s also the Elixer of Tongues which lets Alliance understand Orcish, but not speak it, and Horde understand Common, but not speak it, for 1 hour.

Also, a mage can buy a tome Dalaran that allows them to understand all the languages of their own faction. The tome teaches the Arcane Linguist passive spell.

I miss the days when my rogues could speak cross faction in draconic due to a bug…

This is what made me love the lore language for archeage. If you had no skill into the other factions language it would be gibberish. As you progressed it would be less gibberish, it was dam interesting being in stealth and seeing other factions do trade packs trying to fully understand what they are saying while relaying this info to your guild so you can jump them and claim these packs for yourselves. Plus just seeing what the other faction says when you pvp them XD.

from what i can think of offhand the cross faction languages are pandaren, thalassan (ve/BE), and Demonic

I don’t think theres any other shared languages but there are definitely other workarounds to speak xfaction that have already been mentioned

Yeah more toxic garbo that the horde can /shout in BGs.
