Underpin and BM Agro Issues

I’ve seen some posts regarding this with various advice to try and cheese or counter it but why on earth in 2025 do hunter pets generate any agro outside of abilities that can be toggled? Our ability to misdirect to tanks in dungeons is gimped, pets rip agro on pulls and die while Bestial Wrath is rolling - it’s so frustrating.

No other class in the game suffers from random non-mechanic based disarms. Imagine a paladin pops wings and randomly drops their sword which they have to channel a 2.5 second cast to pick it up but then interrupt that channel to dodge a mechanic and start it over. At least warlocks have a button CD to insta-summon a dead demon.

I have attempted Underpin ?? multiple times now. Yes growl is off. I have swapped my pet to Ferocity. I have tried only casting barbed shot and cobra shot for the first 3-6 seconds of the fight before popping my CDs. I’ve tried starting the fight with no pets and then summoning them and sending them in after I’m in combat. I’ve tried letting them die and rezing them mid combat. For the life of me I cannot keep my pets alive against him. They get one-tap meled over and over again leaving me to try and rez while dodging bombs and crashes.

Can we not just get a toggle ability that makes pets generate zero threat and instead all threat comes from our character? This would be great for misdirect in dungeons as well.

To be clear - I do not want to cheese the Underpin and have my pets tank him. I am happy to face tank and kite him myself while doing the mechanics, he just seems to hate my pets and pops them. I would say at least 4/5 pulls I end up quitting to pet agro death. It’s not a fun class interaction and it’s unique to only BM hunter.

Mythic + dungeons you shouldn’t be running MD. You have to hold your DPS till the tank has threat. The sad reality is that people looking at your meter won’t understand relative DPS vs timed. It’s stupid, I agree, amongst other things, but the reality is we don’t need yet another GCD. Unless of course, that 2.5 sec cast revive pet you want to have as a thing every other pull. >.>

There’s quite a bit of problems with bm so far. The one that stood out to me the most is our tier set bonus will trigger from applying marks onto enemies. I have accidentally pulled things because I’m so used to putting marks on tougher enemies. Feels bad every time.

Another thing (which is ongoing) is that our pets will take damage and even die in non-solo contents. I don’t think healing pets should be part of our rotation but sometimes it feels like that is the case. Don’t get me started on rezzing pets during fights.

Honestly, I hope someone is aware of this and hopefully will be patched out soon.

Because damage generates threat, and if that wasn’t true for pets, people would be screaming in no time about pets not holding aggro.

I think the problem is the Underpin and Zekvir encounter designs. It’s not “cheesing” an ecounter to play the spec the way the spec is usually played in solo content, which means your pet tanking. There are ways to make an encounter difficult while still having it possible for the pet to tank.

Its difficult for bm. I may have to switch to mm or just not finish this content. Though I am talking about teir 11.

Exactly. During Legion, I remember the BM mage tower requiring the need to balance keeping the pet alive while it tanks along with doing the rest of the encounter mechanics. The ?? Delve bosses are so much more tedious and annoying than mage tower ever was.
