Undermine Patch Notes -- Hard Mage Nerfs

Yikes my fellow wizards, magi and slingers of the arcane. Hard nerfs to mages incoming.

A little disappointing really. I wonder if these are the full patch notes though.

It is quite sad tbh. I was happy with last week’s changes and now they come and slam something like this. I’m especially frustrated with the CDR changes to Frostfire, both to Excess Frost and Excess Fire.

But hey, arcane gets the 10% to barrage they stole from us back, so yay?

I swear I’ve never understood Blizzard tuning.

Right, the one (1) buff isn’t even a buff but a reversion of a completely unwarranted old nerf. Everything else is a straight up nerf to a spec that isn’t even over-performing. They’re so out of touch it’s unreal!

Mage literally hasn’t even been OP enough in the PTR to warrant nerfs :upside_down_face::rofl:

The absolute worst is that they’re nerfing fun again. Frostfire gameplay got dumpstered with these changes.

This is the problem in general, and it’s an obvious oversimplification, but you all get the point:

Spec A does 110 dps.
Spec B does 100 dps.
Spec C does 90 dps.

Now for most normal humans, there are two logical solutions:

  1. Buff B and C to do 110 dps.
  2. Nerf A 10 dps down to 100 and buff C 10 dps to 100.

But Blizzard’s “hold my beer” approach is to nerf A 30 dps because we need to punish it for being “OP,” buff B 5 dps because “reasons,” and buff C 5 dps because “math.”

Now you’re left with specs that are not only still imbalanced, but worse than before.

I am tired of missiles having to proc. Arcane is useless in dungeons until the boss fight. Its really freaking frustrating and the game isnt really even fun anymore.

They feel really good in PvP, as in damage wise. Feels meh in PvE.

Presence of Mind should grant us clear casting. The rotation feels weird sometimes too because you would Evo and gain a clearcasting, then arcane surge and gain another, then touch of Magi but it’s a damage loss because you won’t have Aether on missiles and you won’t have nether precision with arcane blast.

So whatever spell you use, it’s suboptimal. Would make sense to launch aether missiles into touch, followed by blast, etc.

But I’m not a mythic raider, so I don’t know how to make it work without some tweaking (primarily looking at presence of mind, since it is a shell of its greater self).

Arcane needs help.
