Undermine Feedback

A general feedback thread for the Undermine outdoor zone for 11.1. I won’t post any spoilers.

Art/Design:
The design for this patch I think is amazing. The whimsical nature of this type of patch does not come often, and I honestly don’t think it should come too often and better suited once every few years. Goblins are a perfect fit for this though and Undermine has long been situated in the lore for years. I feel like this zone was done justice and really looks like how Undermine should feel. It makes me excited for what future cities could look like in terms of feeling alive.

The whole zone feels like an actual really busy city. At first it was overwhelming but that is the nature of a city like Undermine so it fits. Everything from the fake sky/sun to the npcs, the scrapping, surge pricing and racing really feels thematically fitting for the zone and it really gives that feeling like the developers had fun making it.

Bugs/Cons:
Server instability the first day was pretty bad. I did a couple of quests on Tuesday and decided it was just not worth playing that day and to come back and play the next day and hope servers were more stable. I hope future patch launches are more smooth.

Renzik being voiceless really takes me out of the moment and story. I would consider Renzik a major character in the campaign story and there are a lot of moments where Gazlowe talks and I feel intrigued and then it lands flat when Renzik’s dialogue pops up and there is no voiceline. I heard rumors this is due to a VA strike but I’m gonna be honest I’m simply a player of the game and when I don’t hear a NPC have a voiceline it is bad and this character should have been voiced. He also does the dialogue for Operation: Floodgate which is also unvoiced.

Shiny Trash cans are plentiful but also feel useless in Undermine. They don’t really give anything of note, and unlike treasures in the rest of Khaz Algar these do not give you the items for weekly knowledge points. At the very least it should give you those items if the player is still eligible for that week.

Shoveling for the Scrapping events can be really finnicky and randomly just not let you keep shoveling the pile which can be extremely frustrating when the pile is close to 500 then an add spawns and you’re not allowed to click on the pile. Just let us click regardless of when is happening it should be fair game if a player chooses to cc adds and continue shoveling if that is how they decide to handle a mob.

Also not related to the zone but reputation for the Gallagio Loyalty Rewards Club should be auto-looted/rewarded to the player instead of having to loot it.

D.R.I.V.E:
I know it is not everyones cup of tea but I’ve grown to like D.R.I.V.E. At first it was frustrating then with better equipment and realizing just turning my mouse let me drift easier then going around Undermine became a breeze. I don’t think I’d want this particular system for other ground mounts but I enjoy it for the theme of this patch.

Rewards/Pacing:
The renown pacing for the overall Cartels of Undermine seem fine but the reputation gains for specific cartels feel slow. I know it is purely cosmetic rewards but this seems extremely slow and time-gated. I think reputation gains across the board for the specific cartels should just be buffed 30%.

I wanted to highlight the soundtrack of this patch because I loved it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:. It was love at first sight :sparkling_heart:. It’s rare to witness the use of saxophone in World of Warcraft soundtracks so consistently, and its inclusion at various moments managed to convey the emotions of the setting in a unique way.

WoW The War Within - OST Undermined

Previously, the music associated with goblins was characterized by the predominant use of vibraphone, while the saxophone was used more subtly (timidly). However, in this update (Undermined), there was a reversal of this trend, with the saxophone taking on a prominent role in the compositions, and the community’s widespread approval of this change was quite noticeable.

it took a while to figure this out but there are a few things that prevent shoveling and once you realize them, it’s much faster.

  1. Trash. The green stuff on the ground needs to be picked up.
  2. Mobs. I don’t think they actually stop you, but they become a hassle.
  3. Fire. This is not obvious. Sometimes there will be small flame patches that need to just be run over. Once you’ve done that, you’re good to keep going.

I’d absolutely 100% echo the music comments above. For those who play with music on in my guild, it is constantly mentioned that this music is excellent. WoW has had great music in most content with a few pillars really standing out (like WotLK).

The only thing I’d add to the above is that M0 and M+ generally feel about right to me. Depending on who I’ve run with and their skill/gear, appropriate level dungeons feel challenging but not overwhelming, and the dungeons in general don’t fill me with dread when I go to them and once again, this is echoed within my guild. Everyone has their preferences of course, but the quick response to the challenge of the dungeons has made this tier feel “right”.

I don’t personally care for Undermine but I seem to be in the minority on that one. The aesthetic just doesn’t fit me. And that’s ok, just sharing my opinion on it. The raid has been enjoyable so far as well. Some unique or partially unique mechanics and fun things to do (for comparison: my guild has cleared normal and done some heroic).

The stability issues were challenging and there are still some small bugs that I’d hope could be fixed (like swimming nemesis mobs who get stuck on terrain and evade, preventing you from getting the full rewards for a Delve) but I’d generally put most of the content in the positive column.

One last note: On the individual rep I tend to agree that it feels a slight touch too low. I don’t know that 30% would be it, but unless I’m missing something entirely, I end up roughly 400 short of a tier for each week. Given that there are 4 cartels, surely this could’ve been adjusted to allow for a full tier each week, even if it was capped like the Gallagio rep.

I’ve been casually clearing out the map of quests every few days and killing rares when they are up at the same time. I have not received a single Miscellaneous Mechanica. It seems like a super rare drop which seems extremely rough since there’s a few pets/mounts attached to this for a total 113 Miscellaneous Mechanic needed. I am hoping the drop rate is looked at.
