Has there ever been any talk of making the Underlight Angler account bound?
Grinding for it on every character is a pain and (especially now) the effort isn’t worth the reward.

No. I don’t think that’s going to happen either. Although I would like them to fix it so you can turn into a shark and swim underwater again. You can’t do that because you can’t equip it in your weapon slot anymore. Or if there is a way to do it I couldn’t figure it out.
Sorry, I was referring to the new expansion where it seems not to be working at all and I haven’t heard of an ETA on when it might be fixed.
Mine seems to work, just need to fish once and then proceed to go under water

Just buy the Shadowlands fishing pole, it’s not worth farming the angler.
There are other… much easier ways for the rare times you would want these perks than farming the angler.

This is the case, it’s slightly less convient to use, but doing the above should work. It ‘equips’ the fishing gear, aka the angler on trying to fish and the bonuses then work:

It does, I have a picture above of it working, and swimming does as well.
Mine doesn’t as of last night.

Make sure its in the fishing journal, try to fish once so it is auto-equipped as ‘fishing gear’, then try walking on water or swimming if you’ve got those unlocked.

The enthusiasm you have to get one suggests it might be worth it.
Once you have a fisherfriend and do a week of a few minutes each day catching enough currency to buy the three bait fish for each zone. That just leaves the salt water shark to catch.
(For me, it’s just one of the rites of passage every new alt must undergo to earn its place in my roster)
it may work, but without the new stat perception, there are better options for pure fishing

Just be careful not to have the fishing gear buff when diving into water from a great height. I keep forgetting about this small downside of having water walking.

That is never an issue if you always make sure to be looking down when you fall into water, I’ve made that a habit after playing a few classes that have waterwalking.

Entirely possible, depends on the sort of player and what they would prefer & if they are willing to put in the effort for the Angler. For me, I would rather have the at-will water walking, and water breathing with faster then druid underwater form swim speed 9 times out of 10, and can always keep a perception gear on the character if I want to swap for it.
