Undercutting is still a thing - explanation

Ok, I know how Blizz tried to make the AH eliminate the undercutting and the single stacks but the issue is still there.

Example, at noon I post 100 Watchamacalits for 100g each
At 12:01 someone comes and posts 100 of the same item also at 100g each
Since they posted AFTER me theirs get sold first, which is backward to how it should work.
So if I want mine to sell I have to come in and post another 100 either slightly under or at the same price again. However, I can’t see how many people have posted AFTER me, so I am forced to undercut in order to keep my auctions on the top. Or post much more frequently which isn’t feasible.

If they change it to first in, first out, people will just undercut again to keep theirs on top.

One solution would be to remove free market pricing, find a price for everything in the AH and just use that price, everyone posts the same and randomize the ones that get sold.

A) Gross

  1. I’m seeing way more (and deeper) undercuts than previously. Auctioneer and Auctionator being broken is definetly hurting the market (good luck posting 1000+ transmog by hand)

TSM?

TSM still undercuts and the issue is still there. If you are trying to eliminate undercutting, you are only rewarding those that just stay logged in and post small amounts constantly to stay on top

I don’t think alot of people realize how the LIFO system works. Theoretically it should cut the undercutting down a bit, not completely. But if a large group of sellers don’t realize it’s a LIFO system then they’ll undercut by a large margin.

Since I have thousands of transmog items, I have just given up and I’m selling them for just over vendor price. If people want to buy them and try to resell I wish them luck but I need to clean out inventory

Undercutting has nothing to do with the First or Last Out. Undercutting is the competitive side of the AH and nothing Blizzard can do is going to change that.

Undercutting is always going to be a thing - and isn’t a big deal, as in many cases you can simply buy them out if they post too cheaply.

… Problem is, a lot of people are unknowingly tanking certain markets by following what the AH tells them to do. If someone has already drastically undercut an item, they’ll post en masse under that new price without really thinking about it.

All that said, the new AH is still worlds ahead of the old, and I feel like I can actually use it without having to resort to addons now.

Whoever made the AH has zero idea how exchanges work.

I undercut all the time. Some people charge way to much.

I love undercutters tbh, they give me cheap supply and restocks with very little effort on my end.

There’s really no solution though.

Removing free trade price is pointless since at that point you may as well sell it to an NPC, or people will just trade out of the AH.

this is a game right? you guys act like it’s irl stuff lol. undercutting will always happen. i undercut everytime i post something to get it gone and be done with it.

This thread has actually made me understand the reason for first in last out. Conceptually is supposed to help reduce undercuts. Although I don’t think this is explained well to new players.

I do have a wild suggestion; in order to compensate the person who initially sets the price of a stack of goods. The person should get a small percentage of money of the items sold before theirs.

Aside from the suggestion to give everything a set price, which sounds horrible.

They just need to have a minimum undercut that’s way more aggressive and scales up with item price. Problem solved.

I think many are missing the point of the original post.
When you undercut now a message pops up saying
“there is no need to undercut, the last in at the same price will sell first”
So clearly Blizz tried to eliminate the undercutting.
but their solution was to simply change it from
“whoever undercuts the most wins” to
“whoever posts most often wins”
Essentially they want people to login constantly.
that is the intent of that message, otherwise they wouldnt have taken time to code that message in there, if they weren’t trying to solve a problem
clearly its easier for them to track 1000 auctions all at the same price, versus 1000 auctions all one silver apart.
Clearly there is some storage or performance benefit for them if they DONT have a bunch of small undercut auctions, otherwise they wouldnt care and would not have added the message.
See my point?

People are still complaining about people who undercut? WOW. The game is so insanely easy to make gold who cares if you get undercut? I don’t play the AH game, but I undercut when I want my stuff sold and will keep doing it.

Nope not complaining about people that undercut, I’m complaining about Blizzard trying to solve the problem of undercutting, just to NOT solve it.
Clearly they have something to gain by people NOT undercutting

So how exactly do you solve it then? How about some suggestions (like actual possible and realistic ones)? Plus, like I said, it is so insanely easy to get gold in this game compared to Vanilla, why does it bother you so much about undercutting? People want to sell their stuff plain and simple.
