Okay so am I crazy or is it not just insane how Blizzard is gonna take away my undercoin and crests without mentioning any of this through the game? I was stacking undercoin to eventually spend it I didnt know it was going away, and how would I? the game never directly mentioned anything about that to me. Do we even get undercoin converted into gold or something? cuz I just feel robbed rn.
This has happened every single season during tww, you also had a warning that it was going to reset in their announcements for end of season well in advance. ‘News’ outlets like wowhead also posted about what was going at the end of s1.
Take it as a learning experience.
Anything in the season 1 section was going away. This is how it’s been for years.
To answer your question… there was no in-game notification.
Please understand that anything listed under season 1 is gone with season 1. That’s why it’s listed under season 1.
(Edited cause Brahmina isn’t wrong. I was being a jerk.)
Don’t be a jerk. Not everyone pays attention to seasons, and they did warn us during TWW when they were removing undercoin. They really should have had some sort of warning in game about what things were going away. (At least they had a post about the Decor Duels, I’ll give them that.)
I personally hate that they change everything with these season patches, but I hate even more when they take stuff away without any warning or compensation. But, oh well. That’s how it is.
It’s true the game sucks at telling you important things. (at telling you anything relevant actually).
But this has been happening for a long time, so unfortunately complaining will get you nowhere.
What’s gone it’s gone, time to move on.
When you look at the list of currencies, there are categories. One of them was for Season 1. Anything under that category is removed upon new patch when the season ends. That’s why it’s under a season category.
We were also told this:
And I’m sorry, but I’m just getting tired of people blaming Blizzard when we’ve had several articles, and previous seasons of this happening, along with blue posts and people talking about the season 1 currencies going away.
No little square of news in game is going to change anything. People ignore pop ups, news bits, tooltips, all of it.
Why did you expect the currency listed under “Season 1” to stay past Season 1?
When playing a live service game, you should try to keep up with the posts by the company through their launcher.
You don’t even have to read most of the articles. Just scan it once a day to see if there’s anything regarding NEW CONTENT or SEASONS ENDING and you’ll pretty much be kept in the loop with the most basic of information.
How it’s worked for years notwithstanding, It would take next to no effort for them to have your “Banker” send you an in-game mail about upcoming currency changes. RL banks do it all the time.
Not everyone lives in the game’s social media world, or have been playing for years. Some are new and just login and play.
And then we’ll get people pissed off that they’re spammed with in game mail… that they didn’t read… and still come here to blame Blizzard that the section of Season 1 currencies went away with Season 1.
So Undercoin going away has always been a thing. Personally, I don’t see the need. The rewards are locked behind earning a certain delving rank anyway so who cares? It’s a bit like Honor spilling over from one season to the next. It just doesn’t matter.
As for crests, you can’t upgrade previous season gear when the new season starts so all the crests go. I’ve always hated this. Like, who cares if you want to upgrade previous season gear? You’re only doing it cosmetics. It literally doesn’t matter.
But there are two real problems here:
- It’s almost impossible to figure out when something is going to zero out. Is it the day the patch goes live? Is it after 1 week? If in prepatch, which week? Working this out is incredibly difficult; and
- I’m always surprised by something that gets deleted. In the Midnight prepatch it was the warbound crates you bought for 350 Valorstones. I bought a ton to complete S3 sets. They were all deleted and I got 200g compensation. If I’d known, I would’ve used them. Was that communicated anywhere? I don’t think so.
Here’s what needs to happen. Any item or any currency should tell you when it’s going to be deleted when you hover over it. I don’t want to have to go searching for Wowhead posts to figure this out. You should know in game the exact date when something will disappear.
Another bad example was the end of Remix when the login screen said one thing and the in-game calendar said something else.
If it’s listed under season currency, it goes away when the season ends.
The only weirdness is when Crests aren’t deleted when season ends with maintenance like everything else, but at 10pm PST with PvP the night before.
But that’s a different topic.
If a currency is listed as seasonal under the seasonal section of currencies, it goes bye bye.
I would’ve also liked some kind of notice. I only came back to the game after a long hiatus at the end of TWW, so this was my first season I experienced, I had no idea this was one of the things that would go away. I thought I was on top of everything I needed to do before season end, I checked articles and the like, and this was still something I missed. Yes, there’s precedent, but there’s also always going to be new or returning players who have not encountered a feature before, so there should be some form of in-game notice.
When you look at the list of currencies, there are categories. One of them was for Season 1. Anything under that category is removed upon new patch when the season ends. That’s why it’s under a season category. Just like seasonal content ends, seasonal currencies end.
Thus: no more season 1. So anything under Season 1 is null and void.
It’s probably the easiest way to remember how it works.
Undercoin has been underwhelming this time around.
When the currency was just “currency” you might have had a point. The fact that is was literally under a tab that said “Season 1” should give you a clue. This is a self inflicted injury.
I agree that they are terrible at communication. That seems to be a Blizzard specialty. But not for this particular case.
Yeah, pretty much.
But Brahmina still has a point. I was a jerk about it.
Yes you were.
