So, this has always bugged me a bit.
I think the mechanics for the Undead from WCIII was a combination of the various races from Starcraft. Can only build on blight/creep, set and forget structure summons, etc.
So with the Protoss they summoned their pre-made vehicles and structures in from elsewhere. The undead also summon in their structures, but with a ritual performed by a cult-of-the-damned member.
So… where do their buildings COME from?
Have we ever seen it happen in wow’s lifetime? I’m tempted to say that it was just retconned out.
Assuming it’s still cannon, one can only assume that the necropoli are summoned from Maldraxxus now, right?

I guess.
But then where would Maldraxxus summon them from?

Maldraxxus actually builds them. One of their 5 virtues, or whatever they call it, is being awesome crafters.
Then again, it does make you wonder why no one would notice or care about giant flying fortresses just up an vanishing into a mortal world.
The Destruction of the House of Eyes.
“Hey, are you sure you can pull this off?”
“Yeah, I used to do this all the time during the war, back when I was in that cult… Look do you want a new barn or not?”
With the amount of retroactive continuity.
It could be anyone’s guess.
At least Undead in WC3 is the merge zerg and protoss.
If you’re talking about the buildings in Tirisfal, they built those themselves after the Cataclysm. The Forsaken developed their own architectural style.
I always thought that they were summoned from Northrend, or just summoned from across already conquered lands while Arthas was in Northrend. Makes a lot more sense then them just stealing Necropolises from Maldraxxus.
It’s been a while since I played WCIII, but didn’t the animation for undead buildings being constructed look more like they were “growing” in a quasi-organic manner, despite them being “summoned”?
At least in my head canon those buildings were grown, remember thinking that as far back as Vanilla.
