Instead of necroing an old post from three years ago, I thought I would just recreate a thread in support of bringing back the Undead Slaying armor from the WotLK launch event. In short, I just wanted to quote Lull and show my support of their idea in how to bring this set back into the game:
I have tried time and again to submit tickets to recover the armor that I earned from the event, but given the fact I was raiding at the time, the gear was worst than what I already had. I grinded event after event to earn it, the totally RNG drop rate that it was (of course), got some screen shots with it, then discarded it. Transmog didn’t exist back then, so why hold onto it?
Sadly, no version of my character exists in such a small window where the armor is recoverable. I think there are a good amount, or at least some people who are in a familiar situation as me. Lull’s idea about a vendor who sells the armor to those who earned the achievement I think is a good middle ground.
As a hardcore collector, I still stand by my opinion on this matter:
No matter how rare or special or w/e it is… after 5 years, it’s had its time. At the VERY LEAST, put it in the BMAH; but if possible, make it available to the players in the general sense.
To infinitely hold on to items is to allow the dev/creative team to do nothing under the pretext of “the best has already happened.” NO COMPANY should want this.
The best should be yet to come.
And the way to constantly be pushing this model is to have your CURRENT stuff be what people are chasing. Old stuff? Let them have it… we have BETTER STUFF COMING.
If you can’t proudly stand by that statement, then you’re admitting failure. You’re admitting you can’t make a great game anymore.
After 5 years, no matter what it is … open it up.
