Undead pet skins

But we aren’t talking about changing a class. We are talking about making customizations for demons to have undead skins lol that would have 0 impact on class balance

But why would they give cosmetics to a class when they have zero connection to said cosmetics? Sure, they could also give death knights glyphs to change all of their spells to rainbows. It doesn’t affect class balance at all, but it still doesn’t make sense.

Of course they can. It makes sense. I’d also point out, they don’t fear the undead, much like we can’t fear them.

No, we only manipulate, dominate and control souls which are the animating force of the undead. It’s not far off from using a soul to animate a corpse.

It shows that we’re both drawing power from the same place.

It’s not a stretch to think there would be overlap between two spellcasters drawing power from the same place.

Right, death knights cannot fear the undead, but they can dominate/mind control and summon them. Warlocks, yet again, can do neither of these things.

Mages, warlocks, and shaman all use fire. Are we all drawing that fire from the same place? No we are not because we have very different sources of power. There are only so many schools of magic so of course some classes will have overlap, but that doesn’t mean it’s the same source of magic.

Necromancy may be shadow magic, but that doesn’t mean that all shadow magic is necromancy. All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. Gul’dan was a warlock who learned necromancy from Kil’jaeden. That means he was a warlock that knew necromancy, not that warlocks are necromancers and have any special control over the undead.

And at the chance of sounding like a broken record, where in the ~20 years of WoW has the warlock player class been linked to anything remotely necromancerish such as summoning or controlling the undead?

Um, pretty sure they are lol

Mages:

  • :diamonds: Last Guardian + Tides of War indicate mages tap into power of the Firelands to summon fire into being, or otherwise they concentrate the inherent nature of the fire contained in the surrounding area into one location in order to call it into being – according to Medivh that is.

Warlocks:

  • Kanrethad stood up from the table and took a deep breath.
“This is exactly why we are here. I have no love for any of you, but we each bore witness to pieces of even greater power. Imagine - if we fused the molten fury of the Firelands with the unstoppable chaos of Deathwing. Even the powers of the burning legion could not hold a candle to our flames!”
:diamonds: SOURCE: Legacy of the Masters (Part 1) - Obtained via the quest ‘A Tale of Six Masters
  • “The Orc and the Worgen go into firelands, build respect for each other after fighting off lava spiders. They literally rip runes off of the walls in Sulfuron, and discover a way to pull lava directly from the well Ragnaros created. This power became ‘Cataclysm’.”
:diamonds: SOURCE: Former System Designer Alexander Brazie’s later revealed original vision for the Green Fire questline.

As for Shaman with Fire + the Firelands, I don’t think I really need to tell you how that works. lol

It’s not so uncommon for more than 1 class to tap into the same cosmic force. For instance, as mentioned earlier in the thread you got Paladin & Priests – Both utilising the same cosmic force of the light.

The undead plague was created by the Primus and the idea ripped from his mind by the Jailer who then fed the idea to the legion using nathrezim. The legion was a trick a pawn. There is no such thing as an undead demon. Warlocks take their power from the nether and a little from the void. I understand wanting a caster necromancy class in the game but trying to pin that on warlocks just doesn’t fit at all.

The idea of the undead plague being created by the Primus etc is a new one via the one of many retcons in Shadowlands (I mean yikes - they pretty much retconned the whole freaking game).

Not to mention, even with that new ‘lore’ — Warlocks and demons still managed to utilise various forms of necromancy (As mentioned, explained and additionally referenced through sources above).

The idea of spellcasters who literally utilise the dark arts “Not making sense to use Necromancy” is wild … Literally.

No one has been asking or advocating for ‘Undead Demons’ by classification in this thread … We’ve been advocating to switching out demons for undead via new skins as an option, along with perhaps some necromancer spell aesthetics.

That being said, heck even if we were asking for ‘Undead Demons’ – If we’re going to be using new SL lore to justify the argument of this thread, then technically the Nethrezim are ‘Undead Demons’ since they actually origin from Revendreth. :eyes:

Also lore-wise, the powers of Warlocks using soul power, along with Demon Blood in general can also both reanimate the dead.

That’s fact. Such is seen with:

  • The spirits, spectres and souls of the entire Blackrook Hold – Along with the skeletal abomination infused with soulpower ‘The Amalgam of Souls(first boss of Blackrook Hold) – which was created by a ritual made by the warlock Gul’dan.
  • The Frost Wyrm ‘Felmyst’ seen in the Sunwell Plateau raid. Created from the demon blood of Brutallus.

Not to mention there’s plenty of demons that have undead features.
Such examples being:

  • The Felhounds of Sargeras – having skulls as their faces.
  • The Inquisitors – Having skeletal forms & floating in the air like a lich.
  • Socrethar – The Eredar (Who are demons) who’s spirit we had to face off (Last I checked, spirits were undead)
  • You also had Mannaroth at Hellfire Citadel. When we first faced him he was literally a skeletal undead Demon, which form you can still see in the dungeon journal. lol

Well any cosmic power can use necromancy. Margrave Sindane explained that to Calia. “Necromancy is necromancy. You see a difference where there is none child.” So that much is true and actually helps your argument for warlocks diving head first into death magic! I know the lore of the SL is terrible but it’s still lore whether we like it or not. And I’m not anti caster necromancer it sounds fun actually. But if they’re gonna do it. I want them to really do it. Add a fourth warlock spec called necromancy and really flesh it out entirely. My imp just looking like a skeleton isn’t enough

I added my own thread awhile back explaining what they could do with each minion / pet and what they could add for spell aesthetics. Putting in a questline to flesh it out could help too.

That being said, I wouldn’t be totally opposed to a new spec under the guise of ‘Necromancer’ for additional flavour. However my thread provides some ideas to give Demo & Affliction something ‘extra’ like how Destro got such with the green fire questline.

I love my warlock alt but if locks ever got undead pet customizations before death knights do I would riot.

I mean, it’d be sick to add them both @ the same time.
That’d be some fantastic marketing too!

Hmm  Actually, combining a questline to be shared between both Death Knights and Warlocks to get their new undead & necromancy customisations would have a lot of potential too. :star_struck:

:joy: Heck you could create another ‘Marius & Tehd’ character combo – but instead of a warlock & demon hunter, you could have a Necromantic Warlock and a Death Knight  lol. (Then perhaps have the 4 characters meet up one day).

I would like a necromantic caster type. I think there are enough varying warlock/witch type npcs in the world that something like this could work, but it would be a deviation from the Warlock player class as we currently know it. It would need to be a new specialization or class even rather than a skin, imo.

I was looking at Darkmaster Gandling and it classified him as a Necromancer but looking at the spells I see a mix of Warlock things and Shadow priest things.

There isn’t anything like that in the Warlock tree off off the top, but then I look at the Void walker. Clearly comes from the Void, so why not have some sort of Necrotic summons to add ?

There’s no reason why dks and warlocks can’t both deal in necromancy. It’s established lore that all Six Forces know how to use it and will do so whenever it suits them.

Honestly, if they added some mysterious element to the Shadowlands, it could prove immensely beneficial for both foreshadowing new content and bringing in cool features to the game.

Like for instance, if beings that were slain at the Shadowlands had been returning somehow - Revealing death in the Shadowlands is merely pause to a beings existence, and there’s potentially greater planes of death beyond even the Shadowlands — Ultimately leading towards beings of death coming into Azeroth and teaching the powers & secrets of undeath to those that’ll listen …

You could potentially give some more necromancy vibes to -

  • :diamonds: WARLOCKS: Providing them necromantic spell visuals & undead pet options as listed in my comment earlier in the thread.
  • :diamonds: DEATH KNIGHTS: Giving more pet customisation options to Unholy.
  • :diamonds: PRIESTS: Introducing some Revendreth-Red spell visuals for Shadow (like how ‘Mind-Games’ spell animation is).

Introducing more cosmic flavours to classes where it could understandably be seen with (with the right world building & story progression, with references to lore) - That would be great. :star_struck:
