In BEs and NEs case they can be used on Paladins and Druids respectively
Seeing as the quest text is from the quests that unlocks that customization I thought that’s what was being discussed and thought it might be pertinent to mention Druid too in the same boat / type idea
But I may be a bit confused now as to the thread so don’t mind me xD
Yes, they stated that their goal is to eventually open up all classes to all races, and are starting off with the one’s that make “lore sense”, so it goes to reason they’re going to rear-end pull “lore” reasons to open up the options.
It’s kind of hilarious because the restrictions provided structure to the game, and despite how often people claim they don’t want structure and restrictions, time and time again it’s proven that people actually crave these things.
As the modern game becomes more and more homogenous, we’ll see an increase in Classic players, and it wont surprise me if the Classic population outgrows that of Modern, especially if they end up adding Classic Tokens to “fight the RMT” that’s currently running rampant due to Blizzard’s lack of action…almost as if they’re creating a justification for a feature the Classic Community was adamantly against when they datamined it.
No surprise there since they said they don’t want race to be a determining factor for picking a class. The only hold up is certain classes need more love than others.
Paladins need racial mounts.
Shamans need racial totems.
Druids need more forms.
I wouldn’t say that that exchange counteracts the notion that typical death-magic undead can’t be Paladins. Or rather… death-magic undead CAN be Paladins as proven by Sir Zelik. But they typically don’t because they’re in constant searing agony. As far as I know, it’s never been something that was literally impossible, just extremely unlikely for anyone to accomplish.
Putting that aside though, the conversation was in the context of knowing the struggles cultural ostracization that other undead feel in which case it seems there is no difference. Life a a light-undead is difficult in much the same ways that life as a death-undead is. To say there’s absolutely no difference at all in any way would be ridiculous. As the very least, Callia is the only undead with her color scheme and that is indeed a difference. The way the two different types of undead interact with light/death based magic likely differs as well.
