I originally posted this in another potential bug thread, but now that I have had more time to play, I thought I would share what I found as this is something that I enjoyed very much back in OG vanilla and tbc.
Back in vanilla (and I think up until they updated the character models), as an undead, you could cast a spell while holding down the right mouse button in order to twist/turn your character while casting. Your character would turn its upper body while the waste down remained facing forward and made for a pretty cool looking cast animation.
In retail this is no longer possible because for whatever reason (updated targeting system??) when you try to hold down the right mouse button and turn, the game automatically turns your character to face the enemy (Something I personally can’t stand) and sadly Classic has the same problem as retail.
I’ve noticed that it only happens when you’re targeting somebody. For example in Classic, If I cast hearthstone, then I can still use the right mouse button to turn my characterer’s upper body while I’m casting and it works/ looks just like og vanilla. However, anytime that I’m casting a spell while targeting someone then It automatically turns me to face the enemy.
That’s all great and everything, but why bring this up… who cares?
To that I say fair enough, it’s not a huge deal, but here is where it messes things up.
Example one: If I am targeting somebody and I try to strafe, instead of running away with my head tilted like I’m looking behind me (which is the usual animation), my character just runs facing straight ahead as if he wasn’t strafing.
Example two: I’m not sure if this one has to do with targeting someone or not, but when I try casting cone of cold while strafing to the left, the CoC animation faces in the direction I’m strafing instead of blowing outward towards the enemy as it did in vanilla.
Here is the correct original cone of cold left strafe animation. Notice how it faces outward toward the enemy.
Here is the current classic beta animation. Notice how the cone points in the direction you’re strafing. (I’m only talking about the left strafe coc as the left and right used to look slightly different)
Anyway that’s what I noticed and so I was wondering if this is working as intended or if it’s a bug? Either way I am super excited for Classic and will be eagerly awaiting its release. Thanks and sorry for the long winded post.
