Returning player re-learning classes here. If you’re in Metamorphosis and have 2 stacks of spikes, are you better off using one to start recharging, or holding at 2 until you drop demon form for smoother damage intake after the buff ends?
putting things on cooldown to get more uses of it in a fight is a dps consideration not a tanking one. If you use meta and fiery brand at the same time, thats kind of a waste of one of them right? Same logic applies to demon spikes. Use that meta window to buy you time to get your spikes back so that when you come out you can smooth out what damage you might be taking. In general you want to make yourself as healable as possible which is smooth damage that happens slowly or very little as consistantly as possible. React to whatever you need to with the appropriate response, but dont overkill with too many CD’s that leave you open to getting owned as soon as they wear off.
As the above had explained well, be aware of your mitigation.
In most cases, being in Meta will allow your DS to come of CD, and should be fine on its own. Be aware that once Meta is down, that it is very beneficial in having both charges of DS off CD. In short, unless you’re in legitimate danger, your free to stagger DS and Meta.
It honestly depends. Typically, you can hold onto your DS and save them for when meta ends. It acts as your typical “rotate through mitigate” playstyle.
However, I can think of two situations in m+ where you want to stack DS with meta:
-
sometimes your goal in meta is to build up enough threat to kite once meta ends, as tanking with DS but without meta would get you killed. In that situation, not using DS with meta would be a waste.
-
sometimes facetanking, even with meta up, is not enough to sustain you (full beach pull on Tol Dagor on fortified/bolstering/volcanic as an example). Some pulls, i have to use my plumage (active increased verse trinket), meta, DS, FB the most dangerous mob, and the damage is STILL spikey, although sustainable.
Only experience will really guide you in knowing what is appropriate
