Unable to use fishing lure on equiped pole

tried using nat’s fishing hat on pole equiped and it doesnt even work. kind of frustrating seeing as all those hours pumped into fishing his rep for that hat and it doesnt even work

Same. I can’t use Glow Worm.

I think this because the fishing pole is not actually equipped anymore. With the profession tools, it’s just giving the appearance.

There are a lot of fishing poles with "on equip"s

Edit: Oh, you equip it on the profession page…

Uhm… OK.

Edit: Yup, Nats drinking hat “on use” can’t be applied as well. Tried using it on the pole in my inventory, no joy.

Anyone tried the Dalaran fountain lures? That’s could be 100’s of extra hours trying to do the coin achievement without those.

The lures are use on fishing poles you have equipped. I’m thinking if the fishing pole is equipped as a “profession tool”, and not actually being held in your hands; the game might see that as you do not have a fishing pole equipped.

With the amount of hours spent in getting the hat, I really hope they will fix this somehow…

I’m 99% sure it’s this. I tried it multiple times, purchased a good fishing rod, bought a lure and then when it didn’t work, I tried to unequip the rod, which didn’t work, then when I took my weapon out of my hand, the error message was ‘weapon hand is empty’. This means that it’s still trying to apply the lure to the weapon slot. Hopefully that changes soon.

I have:
[Mastercraft Kalu’ak Fishing Pole] = +13 Fishing + 4 Fishing enchant
[Nat Pagle’s Extreme Anglin’ Boots] = +5 Fishing
[Sharpened Tuskarr Spear] = +5 Fishing to any1 in 15 yds
[Nat’s Hat] = +5 Fisning + Lure +10 Fishing for 10min
[Worm Supreme] = Lure + 10 Fishing for 10min

I cant use [Nat’s Hat] or [Worm Supreme]

But was able to use
[Sharpened Fish Hook] = Lure +9 Fishing for 10min
[Bright Baubles] = Lure +7 Fishing for 10min

As I know there is no cap on Fishing, there for Items with [Lure +10 Fishing for 10min] are not working properly = broken.

This is preventing me from using Nat’s Hookshot, which is sad

they really borked the fishing pole abilities.
The legion one no longer can be used while swimming, only gives the water walking buff when you are standing on ground, ect.

SOLUTION!
First an explanation - you no longer EQUIP your fishing rod. This is why /use 16 no longer works. The fishing rod does not take up the main hand slot.

You CAN apply your fishing rod buffs when the rod is in your bag.

So you need a SECOND fishing pole, simply to be able to switch out your good pole to add the buffs/ bait, then to equip it again.

Note: I saved an equipment set with my fishing hat, enchanted gloves, etc. and named it Fishin

EDIT: +2 Fishing enchantment on gloves DOES NOT provide +2 Fishing. It is broken.

Here is my macro:
/equipset Fishin
/equip Fishing Pole
/use Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
/use Khaz’gorite Fisherfriend
/equip Khaz’gorite Fisherfriend

This will place your good fishing rod in your bag, apply the buff/ bait, then equip it.

Note the 2 lines, which you can modify for any bait or buff:
/use BAIT
/use FISHING ROD

I was looking at the + fishing enchant to gloves too.
I see that it now says the +2 enchant only applies to Classic fishing, and the +5 enchant only applies to Northrend fishing.

I will say this much, the fishing profession has not benefited in the same way other professions have from being carved up into expansions.

Every patch and hotfix seems to alter how and what will work on any given fishing pole. For instance, I never know whether or not Nat Pagle’s Drinking Hat will apply the +9 lure buff to whatever fishing pole I have equipped.

Likewise, since Dragonflight, Rook’s Lucky Fishin’ Line from Draenor says it is +4 when viewing the Underlight Angler, but in the professions panel it reflects a +6 (same as the Ancient Fishing Line from Argus).
