when a click the change character button, the blue window that would normally display all my characters appears but with just the spinning load symbol endlessly and never shows my other characters, it wont load.
Shut your system down completely, restart.
It’s been an issue for a few days now and I’ve restarted my computer a few times since then, so sadly that’s not it. But I appreciate the suggestion!!
On a new note: I can switch them on Internet Explorer, but not on Chrome, and the change doesn’t carry over to Chrome. Even if I switch on IE and then come back to Chrome, I’m still on this character on Chrome.

Using what browser on what system?
Something is interfering with JavaScript execution in the client-side logic for the character selection frame.
This is an alt of Sniperorc to demonstrate that character switching works fine for me (Android, Firefox).
I’ve been on my mobile (iPhone) on safari, it hasn’t been working 
This is an alt of Dokrai. I was able to switch to this character using Microsoft Edge 7 days ago when I replied to this post, but now Edge is stuck on this character with the same issue.
On Chrome I am stuck on Dokrai, who I actually race/faction changed last week to a Void Elf named Synieth, but that hasn’t been updated to the forums yet.
So on Edge I’m stuck on this character that I actually deleted and doesn’t exist anymore, and on Chrome I’m stuck on an orc I faction changed.
I use windows 10 on an Asus Zephyrus S laptop. Since I first noticed this issue I have downloaded and updated everything.
Side Note: I can change characters on the main wow website, and it usually defaults to whichever one I last played. I’m able to bring up my accurate characters with that drop down, but not the one on the forums.
Just confirming Jezal is an alt of mine, that character was deleted, and this one was race changed to a void elf.
This is Dokrai’s alt.
I cleared my cache and it fixed this issue.
In Chrome go to your history
clear browsing data
make sure clear cache is checked.
Should work.
