Unable to play my character because I have too many hero talents

I am posting this here because customer support told me to. Here goes.

Context: I have played WoW since 2005. I have maintained a subscription to this service almost the entire time. 20 years of paying for this game. Not to mention the hundreds of dollars I’ve paid for things like character transfers, faction changes, wow tokens, etc.

A month or so ago, I logged into my Death Knight and noticed something amiss. I had 20 hero talents available in both hero talent trees, and yet there are only 10 talent slots. If I was able to change my build and just have the extra talents sit there, that’d be fine. But alas, you can’t change your build without spending all of your talents. This means that I can’t play my DK, because I can’t change my talent build.

I search Blizzard support and uncover article 370437: WoW Character Has Too Many Hero Talent Points…updated 5 months ago.

5 months and no update or workaround for affected players? Really? This can’t be.

I submitted another bug report just because. And then I submitted a support ticket. Surely there has to be something support can do.

After many many many back a forth conversations with support, I can tell you that they can’t do anything. If they can, they’re not willing to do it for me.

I don’t see how it’s possible that I can basically have a character be disabled with no recourse on my part other than to “post on the forums”. Incredible.

Have you tried importing a talent build? I wonder if that would allow it to load up, for example this

Into the import window? That seems like a really strange bug and sorry you can’t play your character

He’s tried a lot of things, importing talents, switching to starter build, etc always leaves him with the additional hero talents. Complete reinstall, attempting commands given from support, nadda.

Can you post a screen shot of your talent screen? Thats insane. never heard of that before

I actually have the exact same issue and reported it as well, and it didn’t gain any traction so I gave up on the character. My Paladin still has talent point issues and resulted in me switching mains for the patch. I’ll just shamelessly plug my thread in case yours has better luck:

I think the most annoying issue with the CS tickets is how it’s immediately ignored, but if you had any sort of platform this issue would be looked at and resolved pretty much immediately.

There’s nothing anyone here can do. The devs have to fix whatever bug is happening. And bug reports have been submitted.

With how rare this is, it’s probably like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

5 months since they posted that page, meaning it’s been a bit longer since it started, and they are just like “Yeh nah you are not playing this character”.

That bug would drive me insane. I somehow managed to get 65 level 80s though and never see it thankfully.

Yeah, I’ve found support to be pretty unhelpful. You just get copied and pasted responses which are from their standard FAQ.

Reddit is a better place to get help, it’s usually where all the hard to fix solutions are located…

Saw your reddit post, as well. This is absolutely insane to me. I can’t imagine how I’d feel if this issue happened to my main and I received the same customer support response. This would be worth quitting the game over in my opinion.

If you haven’t already, you should create a post on the Bug Report forum. You probably won’t receive any help from General Discussion.
