Unable to Launch PTR

A few hours ago it was working normally. Launched it at playable, then messed with customization for a bit. After that I let it finish updating while I had some dinner. When I came back it was finished updating, but when I run the PTR it goes to a white screen for a few seconds while I hear the login music. Then the screen flashes black and pulls open an error.

I have no addons for the PTR, only just installed it. I’ve even tried completely uninstalling the PTR and reinstalling it, to no avail. Oddly enough, in fact, when I uninstall it and reinstall it, it almost instantly finishes installing the moment I click to install.

I’m starting to wonder if it actually is uninstalling the PTR or if I have to do something in greater depth to completely remove everything and start fresh. I even tried deleting my PTR folder from my World of Warcraft folder, but it acts the same way.

I’ve tried a scan and repair, I’ve tried restarting my computer, I’ve even run the program in compatibility mode. All of it results in that same error. At this point I want to completely remove everything that’s been installed in the last 24 hours and try again, seeing as it was working before I finished installing the entire thing.

Edit: A few things I’ve noted since posting this. Completely uninstalling every WoW program I have has not solved the issue.

Also, my OS is Windows 7 and I have a GTX 1660 graphics card, which I’ve checked and the drivers are up to date. Hoping maybe that might help shed light on things.

I’m having the same problem so bumping this

I found a solution! I believe the game was trying to run in the wrong DirectX version. Mecasexxy, go to your Blizzard app, open up “Game Settings”, then scroll until you hit the PTR. Check “Command Prompt” and in the text box enter this to change to DirectX11:

-d3d11

Let me log on after that! I assume the game was trying to run in DirectX12, which I think isn’t compatible with Windows 7.

this did not fix the issue for me personally, could it be because i am on windows 10 ?

I think that’s the possibility. This is the article I used to solve my issue

I used the number 5 fix and it worked for me.
