I started pet battling earlier this week, purchasing the training with my main and only doing battling on said main. Since then, I have gotten three pets to level 5 or above. I was unaware that there was related quests to the battling system until I tried to battle Zunta about two hours ago and was unable to do so. Looked it up, and saw that I should have gotten quests from Varzok that would end up with me being able to battle Pet Tamers, so I returned to Varzok.
Varzok was not offering me any quests – physically clicking on him only gave me “Interested in catching some rare pets?” and “Interested in trading your battle-stones?” options. I tried reloading UI, logging in and out, shutting down client and restarting, and zoning multiple times, with no avail.
On a whim, I logged into an old alt that was sitting in Orgrimmar, collecting mold, ran her up to Varzok… and she could get quests from him. Specifically, “Varzok”, “Learning the ropes”, and “Zunta, the Pet Tamer” (“Got one!” and “Level up!” were not offered, but I also can’t say for sure whether or not I had already done them with my main). Ran those three on the alt, but (again on a whim) abandoned “Dagra the Fierce” from Zunta and “On the Mend” from Varzok. Logged out, switched to another old alt that’s been collecting dust in Orgrimmar, ran her up to Varzok… she could pick up “On the Mend” (didn’t accept) and checking Zunta, she could pick up “Dagra the Fierce” (abandoned, marker returned above Zunta).
Logged back into my main. No quest available from Varzok, but I could pick up “Dagra the Fierce” from Zunta. Logged back to both alts, “On the Mend” available for the both of them from Varzok.
I’ve basically already managed a work-around so that I don’t currently have something TO fix, but I don’t know if/how this will continue to affect me later on. I’m not exactly relishing the thought of potentially having to swap to alts to periodically check/pick up/run quests from Varzok (and some concern there’s other NPCs that are doing the same thing to me), so thought I’d report it.
Notes:
– I have the same addons running on all three characters I used in this.
– I do have low-level quest tracking active on my main’s mini-map. Varzok has no “!” of any colour over his head. On alts, Varzok had a bright yellow “!” that showed up without low-level quest tracking.
