So, what do we think about it? It feels SUPER weird to have only a partial set for a trading post item. I mean I could understand one piece like the shoulders or something. But having the three pieces makes it just feel incomplete.
Plus, the orb aesthetic in the picture isn’t doing anything justice. I’ve yet to see any hi-res motion video of the set. Don’t get me started on the fact that we’re getting an off-hand item and not a wand…

it’s basically Kael’thas gear, but with ugly colors. Should’ve stick with original colors

That probably would have looked MUCH better honestly. I think they may have been going with maybe a high elf motif. I’m not sure though.

Yeah, I complained about it on the official thread and I wasn’t the only one. Idk what the nonsense is with the 3 piece sets this expansion, it just feels lazy. No other explanation. Still, at least ours looks cool. Rogues and Hunters got completely shafted.
When that model was first datamined by the folks over at Wowhead I thought for sure they were wrong and it was a wand but no… it’s an off-hand.
That’s exactly what it is. Blue and gold were the Quel’dorei colors before the War. The survivors changed to red when they became the Sin’dorei to symbolize the spilled blood of their kinsmen.
The problem is there is absolutely nothing in game to match it with other than the Blood Elf Heritage armor but, you know, that’s red and this is blue.
Color variations for some of the other “sets” were datamined so it may be that those will either be included with the initial purchase or become available in later months like those stupid hood and cloak recolors that they keep including every month. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.
These half measures are becoming typical and it’s really frustrating but that’s Blizzard these days.

On the plus side it’s not just the Mage set that looks awful, the other class “sets” are just as bad. My take though is that if Blizzard doesn’t want to design full sets, then I’ll just go about not wearing pants or a shirt. Gotta turn all those low-res ladies into fruit, but it’s fine to release nudie-sets.
Honestly, despite knowing the rewards are essentially free xmog and mounts, I am still disappointed. Low effort, re-releases and re-skins. There’s a few items that I think look good (like the long ballgown gloves) but all the items and half-sets feel like they’re only going to look good in 2 years time when they release the rest of the set.

Will it also unlock a fire tint? If not, USELESS!
There’s no other tint that I know of right now. It was never datamined ahead of time. This is currently the only know color variation of the set.
Bummer! I guess they can slow drip these bad boys in different colors over the next few years lol
It’s basically high elf Kael’thas gear, in theory it can combine with Vindicative Gladiator’s Silk Armor on Alliance side for a proper magister look, but kinda unlucky for Hordies unless they make it red and golden for them.
My guess about the half set is because they had to accommodate the Evokers somehow, so a full set wouldn’t be ideal. That being sad I like the set but find it a bummer that they chose these colors.
Vindicative Gladiator’s Silk is a bust. The blue and gold are a very different hue and it’s studded with red gems all over (including right in the middle of the chest) whereas this new “set” has blue gems inlaid in the shoulders and belt.
The human cloth battlefront armor is a slightly better fit but again the blue and gold are a different hue, the blue especially is different enough to really clash. Also the tertiary color on the battlefront armor is white and this one is a very dark gray, almost black. And as you pointed out those sets are only available for Alliance characters.
There are a few other options but they’re all ancient models with outdated graphics and look terrible next to these brand new 3D ones. I’ve poured over every available transmog and there’s just nothing that will work besides the Blood Elf heritage armor which of course is red.
Bottom line is they need to release the rest of the pieces and complete all of these sets. It’s ridiculous not to.

Well that’s no excuse. First of all Evokers have a visage form and also their Dracthyr form doesn’t even show helms so if that was the reasoning they wouldn’t have made helms either. But that’s all moot because there is no reason to penalize every other class just because Evokers can’t display armor in their Dracthyr forms. No this was just laziness/cutting resources pure and simple.
Well, you’d think they wouldn’t sell the tenders for real money either but that’s where we are.
