I am thinking of either getting a 32 inch or 38 inch ultra wide monitor with it. I am starting to favor the 32 inch so I can make use of my current monitor. Are there any ultrawide 21:9 users our there that can comment?
Whatever you do, don’t get Dell’s 49 inch monitor. I have it for work, and it’s great, but there’s an issue with playing videos from any website. Haven’t found a solution after countless hours with tech support and scouring the internet for solutions. Works great for work though and just playing the game considering it’s not a gaming monitor.
i have a 34 inch predator monitor and love it feels more immersive to me without using dual monitors and having a line in the middle. i get about 80 fps with 1070 but plan to upgrade when the 3000s series comes out.
I have a 34 inch LG and like it fine. I like being able to have the map open all the time on the left side of the screen and still have a full view of the game.
I wish I had gotten a larger screen though, 34 isnt quite as big as having dual monitors so I can’t quite have two documents open on the screen next to each other the same way I could with two monitors. I can but its a little awkward. I would get a 39+ next time if I did.
I think they are a little overpriced though, seen some going for like 4k, ridiculous.
Love my 34” ultra wide. I was playing on my backup computer this weekend that is still running a 24” 16:9 monitor. I’m debating upgrading it now.
I would also pipe in with a 34" ultra wide. I am building a new computer just to run this. I would say might not want to go over 34". I was shocked at just how much of my desk space this thing takes up. And it already fills my field of view. Not so sure anything much bigger would be all that enjoyable. And could see it being a distraction.
I am on a triple monitor right now: dual 27 in monitor and an OLED 55 LG tv.
I am usually on 27 inch when playing WoW and the 2nd 27 inch is usually browsing Top Gear, Raider io, Blood mallet while playing a 4k Movie on my 55 in TV. And the best part of it is it works simultaneously.
When I play GTA V, I am on 55 inch 4k. I am not used with playing WoW on 55 inch.
I don’t recall what size my Ultra-wide monitor is exactly but it’s one of the “smaller” ones, still I find it fantastic for WoW.
The 21:9 ratio makes it so much better to set-up a nice and clean UI, I don’t think I could go back to a regular monitor now.
I have a 32 inch curved AOC. Bought it back in December and I use it to watch movies youtube and play games.
I had a great time in wow and other mmo’s with my 32 in ultrawide.
But it had so many issues in other games I wanted to play i ended up changing for a 2560x1440 16:9
I built a new desktop recently and got a 34” ultrawide monitor for it and it’s just been amazing! Had it for a little more than 2 weeks and I still spend some of my gaming time just flying around in different zones of the game looking in amazement at how pretty everything it is. A big factor is that I now have settings on max!
The extra space on the UI for addon elements you can have out of way is also just awesome.
I was going to suggest they find ways to test their field of view against different sizes from different positions. Sitting further back would enable use of a bigger screen, and sitting closer would make a smaller screen okay. One other poster using a 34 inch to have their map open on one side and still full field on the other side looks like a fair functional advantage.
My own eyes are weird, so when I tried using my 46 inch tv as a display, sitting far enough back to see it all made the text almost impossible for me to read. Then sitting close enough to read made most of the ui go out of my field of view. Toggled it back to this 19 inch guy on my desk…
I love my ultrawide. Wow (and most modern games) actually handle it fairly well, though some older games you will run into some UI issues.
Forget the monitor. Just get a large tv. Make sure its a true HD, 1080 or better. I use a 55" Samsung. Great for gaming, great for movies or streaming tv, great for split screen or multiple windows.
FYI field of view is different between TV ratios and ultrawides.
I have the Alienware 34 ultrawide and love it
Some newer games too… it really depends.
Overwatch’s “21:9” mode actually cuts off about 30% of the view of a 16:9 monitor.
I’ve been using the Alienware AW3420DW 34 inch Ultrawide Gsync monitor for about 4 months now with a 1080ti/i770k. Wow runs well at 1440p but you need an add on to move the tooltip to your cursor. Your neck will thank you later. There’s also an ultrawide only setting to make the two right vertical action bars only occupy one column instead of two.
Nice. Thats sick. Whats the name of the addon you use?
I’m using Leatrix Plus to move the tooltip to the cursor. I know it’s not the only addon to do it though.
