Ultimate gaming setup whats yours?

I’m going to be building my own gaming computer and was wondering what would your ultimate fantasy machine components consist of and why.

GPU? Motherboard? ram size?

what do you guys have or wish for?

Due to my limited space, I don’t have the room for what I REALLY want my setup to look, but spec-wise I’m almost there.

My system isn’t exclusively for gaming and I’m a heavy multitasker, so I tailored mine based on overall usage. Here are the core components I’m running right now:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5900x
Mobo: Asus Crosshair Hero VIII WiFi
RAM: G.Skill 64GB DDR4-4000 running @XMP 4000Mhz (I haven’t tightened the timings yet)
GPU: GeForce 1070 (I want a 3080, but we all know what’s going on with that…hence the “almost” part)

I already have a Logitech gaming KB and mouse, though my joystick needs replacing due to age - the servos are worn preventing it from centering.

I have a Logitech steering setup with pedals and a shifter for my driving sim games like American Truck Sim, Euro Truck Sim 2, and Snowrunner. I’d love to have the knob for the range and split gear selection. It’s roughly $100 JUST for the USB knob.

My fantasy setup will also include the Logitech Flight setup with the yoke, rudder pedals, throttle, and full modular cockpit dash for Flight Sim 2020. We’re looking for a total cost of ~$1000.

I also wish to have:

  • Three G-sync monitors for that wide angle view - again a room issue.
  • Full-body VR set
  • Surround sound system

I used my stimulus to upgrade to a 10700k, 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB WD Black m.2 drive. Still using my RTX 2060.

Current gaming machine is an Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 with these specs:

  • Ryzen 5900HS
  • RTX 3080
  • 1TB SSD
  • 32GB RAM
  • 2560x1440 165Hz IPS display w/GSync

Got it a few weeks ago when it popped in stock at Best Buy. Would prefer a desktop, but getting ahold of all the requisite components for that right now is difficult. Probably works out better anyway since it’s sharing desk space with a couple of other machines. RAM is overkill but that’s what the SKU that came in stock had and it could come in handy for some hobby usage, so /shrug.

Rest of my desk looks like:

  • Custom built 60% mechanical keyboard + left-hand numpad w/ U4 Silent Boba switches
  • L-Trac trackball/Logitech G605 mouse (swap out depending on game, trackball is easier on wrist)
  • ASUS PB278Q monitor (would like to replace this soon, works well enough but is a mismatch with machines hooked up to it)
  • JDS Labs Element II DAC+Amp
  • Sennheiser HD 6XX headphones
  • 27" iMac #1 (job-provided dev machine)
  • 27" iMac #2 (personal machine, daily driver and used for dev work on the side)

All of the USB switches I can find are either out-of-spec garbage so to switch KB+mouse between machines I have a small 4-port hub that I switch host cables on.

Ideally I would like to rent/buy a place with ample rooms, so I can dedicate a room to office/work and another to gaming, letting me specialize the desks for each much further than I can with a single desk in my apartment.

I actually updated my build just recently due to some new parts acquired at a killer deal. I sold my old ones. My current build pretty much is my ultimate gaming build

  • Case: Phanteks Eclipse P600S
  • New CPU: Ryzen 9 5950x
  • New MB: RoG Dark Hero x570
  • Video Vard: RTX 3070 (want a 3080)
  • Ram: 64GB Hyperx Predator Series downclocked to 3800mhz CL16
  • CPU Cooler: Arctic liquid freezer II 360
  • Main HD: M.2 Sabrent Rocket SSD 2TB PCIE 4.0
  • Secondary HD: 8TB SATA III SSD
  • Monitor: LG 34GP83A-B

Yep back on AMD. Those who know me on here know how much I hate dealing with AGESA in its current form; however dealing with it is worth it for a 5950x

Cool. AGESA is a lot better now too.

Oh I thought it was just my new motherboard LOL.

I must say the dark hero is the best motherboard I have ever used. It puts the regular hero to shame. On this motherboard it seems at least tolerable

Yeah, most of the bugs fixed. Getting more than FCLK 1900 depends on silicon lottery. Not the BIOS.

Yeah I might actually keep this CPU for this next Generation and skip Zen4. Especially if the rumors I’m hearing about Zen 5 are true that’s probably going to be my next upgrade

I switched back to AMD because I was able to get a 5950x and a Dark Hero combo for $1000 (for both not each) on ebay of all places. The seller said he just wanted it sold fast because the person he bought it for passed away.

Kind of sad

I use 2 machines now. Everyday use is 9900K + GTX 1070 (with Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo II). Demanding games will be 5900X + RTX 3080.

You have to admit though I got an insane deal on that 5950x and motherboard. Although I do feel bad for the seller his reason for selling is pretty sad

Yeah, its cheap. X570 Dark Hero is $400, 5950X is $799. Definitely a steal.

Ironically enough both were unopened so I knew it was not any type of scam and both work fine

From the looks on the situation, we won’t be buying anything until at least 2023. Shortage is really bad now.
