Tried to enter H25 Ulduar for a try at the mount. When raid difficulty is set to 25H there is no skull overlay on the instance portal and upon entering the text for Ulduar (Normal) shows. I exited the instance several times and my raid difficulty kept resetting to Normal. Even after i would set it back to Heroic and enter the instance again I would get the text prompt that the raid was set to Normal. I noticed last weeks lockouts on my characters were Normal as well even though i definitely set them to heroic prior to running.
I think because Ulduar is set as a Timewalking dungeon for its designated weeks, there’s no more switching it between norm/heroic. I think loot from both difficulties can drop in the same run, if they dont drop out of the hard mode chests.
There is only 10m and 25m, no normal/heroic. 25m was the “heroic” back then. It wasn’t until 3.2 when trial of the crusader came out that 10m normal, 10m heroic, 25m normal, 25m heroic became a thing.
You simply want 25 man ulduar.
Ohhhh, well now that would make sense. Now I feel dumb. Its been so long since I’ve played, trying to figure out everything I’ve missed I completely spaced that detail, but you’re right. TY, I was really questioning my sanity there for a bit running in and out trying to figure out what was wrong.
The real Heroic was the various boss fight optional hardmodes, like killing the heart core on XT-002 or Yog-Saron no keepers.
There never was a Normal/Heroic toggle; that started with Ice Crown Citadel. And the 10/25 toggle was eliminated when Ulduar became a flex raid to accommodate Timewalking raids.
To get the option for mount to drop just dont talk to the 4 people in the outer rim after defeating them. There was only hard modes in Ulduar not heroic.
That’s the “Yogg-Saron no keepers” hardmode I mentioned, which corresponds to the achievement “Alone in the Darkness.”
(Although the achievement has nothing to do with the mount. You just have to have the final fight set up that way in order to even have an RNG-controlled chance at the mount.)
