I would have thought wotlk launch was too fresh for them to have Dragonflight come out two months later on an extremely rushed and haphazard alpha/beta/launch release schedule, but here we are.
I no long expect anything from Blizzard regarding an intelligent release schedule that doesn’t have their own products competing with one another for playerbase.
Wait, do you think Blizzard cares, let alone aren’t doing this by design?
It’s all the same sub, they couldn’t care what game you’re playing… in fact they probably prefer you playing DF because you have to buy the expansion to do so on top of the sub.
They have the data and im sure it tells them the classic and retail players are a wildly different playerbase… so it probably doesnt really matter tbh.
More for resources on their own end to develop things.
The people who’d leave because Ulduar doesn’t come within the year are also the ones that would leave if TotGC doesn’t come 2 months after Ulduar. They’re tourists and shouldn’t be catered to.
Eh, I’ve given them my money and played the first 2-3 months of the last three expansions in a row. Legion, BfA, and Shadowlands have all held my attention for the initial burst of gameplay and pvping and what not before I’ve moved on.
Dragonflight is the first WoW expansion in history I’m not preordering and not playing prepatch or on launch. And if I’m not playing it on launch, I don’t think I’ll play it at all. It doesn’t matter how good it might turn out to be, I’m loath to feel behind.
Maybe I’m the singular person in all of WoW’s playerbase who feels this way, but if Blizzard had released Dragonflight even 4-6 months after Wotlk Classic, I would 100% have gone and played Dragonflight at that time.
Now though? I’m skipping out on it, and I really think I’m not the only person who would have given it a try if only it weren’t so close to Wotlk Classic.
