Ulduar Heroic Mode?

Am I wrong, or did they remove heroic difficulty from Ulduar?

I’m trying to farm some transmog from it, but the only setting that I get is normal, even if I set my raid to heroic mode…

What’s going on?

Didn’t you have to meet criteria to get hard mode. It’s not heroic

For example, dont destroy towers on leviathan to make it hard mode. Kill heart on xt

They merged 10 and 25-man modes when they released Wrath Timewlking. If you walk in solo it’ll say its 10-man but gear from both still drops.

Well, first activate the orbital platforms by talking to the titan construct at the start instead of Brann then don’t destroy the towers.

I’ve seen some people refer to 25-man mode as heroic but you’re correct that Ulduar didn’t have a specific Heroic mode the same way ICC does.

“heroic” mode wasn’t a gear set. They had 10m, then 25m. They merged them, now if you do it you can get 10 or 25 pieces. Hardmodes are still in the game and are activated depending on how you kill each boss.

Yep. Getting my Death Knight set from that place is becoming an extreme pain now that I have two loot tables in pool, decreasing my chances. I’m just glad I got everything else that I wanted from the place before the change.

Damn you Algalon! I WILL get those shoulders some day!

ulduar hardmodes are activated in-game not from the UI.

they are the last time in-game triggers were the HM. starting with the following tier, it was from the UI.

Ulduar’s “heroic” difficulty is activated purely by mechanics. Most of them you’ll do accidentally (Yogg with 0 lights, defeating Thorim and Hodir before they blow up the second chest) but a few require you to pay a little attention (like General Vezax and the 5-minute wait for him to build a vapor sandcastle)

The only notable change with Ulduar is that the 10-man and 25-man loot pools were combined into one difficulty when they added the Timewalking version, which, combined with the existence of hardmode fights, means most bosses have a pool of like 20 items, which is cool and good and won’t make you angry when you just want that one shield.

I wish they would make more raids like that. It’s more engaging. I at least think so

There are only so many ways to trigger the hardmode, and forcing there to be one that isn’t a menu option can be a design limitation.

I agree. I liked it and I may be in the minority on this one.

Just thought it was a cool thing

I agree it’s cool, but forcing it where it doesn’t make sense can be detrimental to the design process.

Actually certain bosses have certain pieces. Thorim, for example, has the 10m helm whereas the 25m one drops from Mimiron or whoever else. I think all of the loot tables work that way and it probably works that way for all the classes.

Hardmode gear also is a thing and works the same way. Technically there are a few drops unique to the hardmode version of the encounter. For example, killing the big stone giant of the 3 man council has some kind of unique weapon that I forget.

Honestly I think they need to give us a legacy raid option that disables all RP, cutscenes, and timed/forced mechanics and also gives no drops except for items you can learn and don’t have at the cost of those drops not being worth gold and in this mode, all the difficulty options of the loot tables are available so no having to remember to toggle raid size and difficulties and which can be what. These lockouts would also be daily since they’d lose their gold farming component.

But it was a good time watching people press the big red button.

What? The XT-002 is fantastic and makes total sense.

Having a meta achievement linked to activating hardmodes is great.

They work well where they work.

My concern is that a return to this could result in it getting forced into a place where it does not work.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies.

I kept getting the “wrong” loot (wrong reskin) and figured something was wrong…

I wish they hadn’t made it more difficult to get items… but, thank you again!

Just to let you know that when they changed ulduar to a timewalking raid (aka 10-30 man normal) that’s when they consolidated loot from normal and heroic into where it is now. That happened almost 5 years ago with patch 7.3.5 in January 2018. They also removed the freebie ulduar skip to inner areas that happened to be up all the time too. Gotta work through the whole raid unlike back in legion.

It’s actually bad design. It would force everyone to make the fight longer then it had to be for 1 or 2 extra pieces of loot. It would be more annoying then helpful.

As opposed to recently, when raids are often more difficult and rewards were cut down to even less.

Back then, it was more about progression then the actual extra loot though.

Oh you would really love that I think every playstyle should have equal gear in equal time. No mounts should be in raid at all. Just titles
