UK blocks Microsoft Activision Blizzard deal

Well looks like it may not happen after all unless some major concessions or changes are made and maybe not even then.

Basically their concerns over the cloud gaming sector was the main reason for them saying no.

Microsoft is obviously going to appeal it.

Aren’t those US corporations? If so, why does UK have a say in the matter?

It doesn’t just affect the US market…
They’re both global companies

This claim makes no sense and smells of some sort of collusion. Or could be that im just really tired.

This is what was quoted from the Eurogamer article on it:

“Instead, today’s decision stems from the CMA’s concerns over the deal’s proposed impact on the cloud gaming sector. In today’s final report, the CMA said Microsoft’s ownership of Activision Blizzard risked “stifling competition in this growing market”.”

Im not doubting the claim. I just fail to see how.

Technically they don’t but if they want to operate within that market, they have to abide by the rulings.

The biggest thing here isn’t necessarily this one ruling, it’s the fact that frequently, not always but frequently, once one makes a decision like this, the other big markets, EU and the US has a tendency to follow with similar rulings themselves.
