UI randomly blocks only works after reloads

Someone posted about this in technical support but I’m going to submit a bug report on this because I do think that a lot of other people are having the same problem as me or similar. The action bars freeze up and will not let me do anything. I hear a weird clicking sound when trying and there’s no error messages and this happens even with all add-ons turned off, after going through portals and other things. Manually putting reload in the chat is the only thing that fixes it, but I have to do it every time I go through a portal. Seems to be the hidden bars only. I hide some of my bars and just use hotkeys on my gaming mouse and keyboard to do certain things. Other people have said that they’ve had their action bars freeze up randomly also and I think it’s related to that. I believe this is a bug.

I’ve had this exact same issue both with addons turned off and on. It’s not every single time I go through any portal at all but it is extremely frequent and seemingly random. I’ve had it happen on all toons with a variety of portals and in a variety of locations and also with hearthstones and other loading screens as well such as after cut scenes.

When I have addons turned on and this happens, I’ll get an error message that an addon is blocking the game UI but it’s never the same addon. It will be one particular addon, so I disable that, then it will be another one so I disable that and then another until I’ve had to turn off 10-12 addons. Updating my addons has not seemed to help this in any way and neither has turning them off, but /reload will make it stop temporarily.

I’ve had my action bar freeze up the past couple days, without going through portals. I was on my shadow priest last night doing that quest where you follow Pocopoc around, and died because I couldn’t attack anything. Didn’t matter if I hit the keyboard button or tried mouse clicking, it was as if I had no action bar there at all.

Same here. Same deal with it claiming to be addon errors but the addons it’s picking to claim are erroring are ones that have nothing to do with UI whatsoever, and even when I disable them, it just…picks another random one next time. When it happens, same deal as above, hotkeys don’t work except on bar 1 (and I’m still getting a LUA error every time I press a hotkey), and the rest of my bars may as well not be there at all. It only started happening a few days ago.

Sample Error:

`

“[ADDON_ACTION_BLOCKED] AddOn ‘HandyNotes_MistsOfPandariaTreasures’ tried to call the protected function ‘MultiBarBottomLeft:SetPointBase()’.”, “[string "@Interface/AddOns/!BugGrabber/BugGrabber.lua"]:480: in function <Interface/AddOns/!BugGrabber/BugGrabber.lua:480>\n[string "=[C]"]: in function SetPointBase'\n[string \"@Interface/FrameXML/EditModeSystemTemplates.lua\"]:62: in function SetPoint’\n[string "@Interface/FrameXML/EditModeManager.lua"]:629: in function UpdateBottomActionBarPositions'\n[string \"@Interface/FrameXML/EditModeManager.lua\"]:555: in function UpdateActionBarLayout’\n[string "@Interface/FrameXML/EditModeSystemTemplates.lua"]:655: in function UpdateGridLayout'\n[string \"@Interface/FrameXML/ActionBar.lua\"]:350: in function UpdateVisibility’\n[string "@Interface/FrameXML/ActionBar.lua"]:317: in function Hide'\n[string \"@Interface/FrameXML/PetActionBar.lua\"]:182: in function Update’\n[string "@Interface/FrameXML/PetActionBar.lua"]:84: in function <Interface/FrameXML/PetActionBar.lua:70>\n[string "=[C]"]: ?”,

HandyNotes was a frequent one for me that caused the error but it wasn’t the only one for sure.

Mine’s been behaving since I got rid of the Bartender addon (and it was blaming everything else under the sun in the interim). So, if you have an addon for replacing your action bars, you might want to fully uninstall it for now, until the addon devs and Blizz can figure out how to make their stuff play nice.

Have any of you actually reset your UIs via Blizzard’s instructions? It might be bothersome, but something as simple as an old cvar in SavedVariables that aren’t even used anymore have been found to cause problems.

Might be worth resetting the UI and seeing if this really is a bug or just a strange interaction with old remnants of the previous UI that are still in your game folders.

Never used bartender ever so that’s not the issue in my case at least.

grumble grumble been avoiding it because it is honestly annoying af especially when you have 10000 weak auras but I will if nothing else works, just wanted to see what other peoples’ thoughts and results in this thread were before I resorted to that.

I did not want to have to do this, but I’m giving in. I’ll just save everything on backups and do the WoW UI reset. I removed a few add-ons and it’s not freezing my hidden bars as much, but it’s still doing it so I’m just going to do the reset since blizzard and other players are recommending to do that. I’ll post the results after a few days.

A brief overview of my problem:
Only my hidden bars actions randomly freeze, anything visible works fine. I usually get messages that an add-on is preventing it from running but even after disabling add-ons it still had the issue.

I’m back after doing the UI reset it did not solve the problem. I guess I’m stuck doing reloads sometimes.

This happens to me too, but it doesn’t matter what bar the spell is on. An error pops up saying X addon is preventing you from doing this, and it seems to happen with any addon. I’m then unable to use any spells because when I press the keybind the error will come up (this is the only way it happens also, by pressing a keybind, doesn’t seem to matter if it’s a macro for mounting or a spell cast), after pressing escape and pressing the bind again it will continuously pop back up until I reload my UI. Then it will be fine for ~10 minutes but eventually the error pops up again. It usually likes to blame BigDebuffs first, but it can’t be BigDebuffs causing the error since it happens even when it’s disabled. It’s actually game-breaking for many reasons, for example, when I’m in an Arena/Battleground I’ll have to reload my UI as I’m in the middle of being attacked by other players. It also happens outside Arena, of course, such as in Dungeons or Raids, and frequently. As I said it doesn’t matter if I’m pressing a spell, a mount, a pet, or a macro. I haven’t tried pressing something from my spell book/mount journal, but I will. I’m pretty sure it could happen with an empty macro (I will test this lol) as long as it’s keybinded.

I’ve found a temporary fix, haven’t had this issue all day yesterday. I downloaded Bartender and have been using it. For some reason, the issue seems to only happen with the new WoW frames. Hope this helps someone. I wasn’t too thrilled having to download it to resolve the issue, but I was able to recreate my ui easily since Bartender is very customizable. I’ll update this if it happens with Bartender.

Same is happening to me too.

Has anyone figured this out? It seems to blame random addons. Its not always the same one and I have to press /reload to fix it. I’ve had this happen even with no addons enabled.

Me too, certain buttons will have a shade over two thirds of them. Happens during m+ which is not ideal
