UI NamePlates super Tiny (on only 1 character)

Okay, so this is weird.

On my main Character (My Paladin) I was doing layer 8 in the twisting corridors, so I switched to Prot. because it’s easier. Once I did that, my nameplates became 1/4 of the size they normally are.

I thought It was because I was using Kui Nameplates, so I just changed the frame size to as large as I could make it in the addon interface for the Kui Nameplates.

I noticed though, that all my other characters have larger nameplates that are normal. I disabled Kui Nameplates (and all my addons) and to my surprise the Blizzard nameplates are super tiny now too! (But only for my Paladin They’re normal on every other guy)

So now, on my Main character, the blizzard UI Nameplates are 1/4 the size they used to be.

It’s only affected Harsh my main Character. Every other character I have is normal.

I have gone into the interface options and yes “larger nameplates” is checked. If I uncheck it, then the nameplates become so tiny I can barley see them!

I have deleted my WTF and Interface folders, but the problem persists… ON ONLY MY MAIN!

What’s going on? How can I fix this?

EDIT:

Here are screen shots if it helps:

My Alt: https://i.imgur.com/NE6qp5C.jpg

I just un-installed the game, and re-installed it. (deleted the WoW folder and everything after the un-install)

It’s STILL doing it?

Have you tried turning off all your addons to see if it’s still doing it?

Hi Harsh,

I am sorry to hear you have been having this issue. Thank you for providing the troubleshooting steps you have gone through. Since you have both deleted your WTF folder and Reinstalled the game this leads me to believe it will be in your ingame options.

I have been able to replicate your issue by using:
Options -> Interface-> Names - > Larger Nameplates

I hope this resolves your issue.

Yes, I did try this, and mentioned it in my post. When I disable “Larger Nameplates” it makes it so small I can barley see the power bars.

It’s not the ingame settings. I’ve checked, and re-checked between characters. Even going so far as to open my nephews account in another window of the game and checking setting by setting.

Nothing has fixed it. I believe there is a broken server side issue. I’ve un-installed the game, deleted all wow traces re-installed the game, started without mods of any kind, and it’s still doing this but ONLY on my Paladin.

EDIT:

For clarification, I understand that it seems like the screen shot of Harsh vs my alt, shows what looks to be the unchecked “Larger Nameplates”, but this isn’t the case. Both Characters in those screen shots have IDENTICAL Settings. If I uncheck the “Larger Nameplates” on my paladin the bars become even smaller than they’re shown in that screen shot.

It’s not something stupid, like a setting or a mod. WTF folder or Interface setting. I’ve checked/removed, deleted everything. It still persists, again only on Harsh!!

It’s the only reason I made this post. I’m at a loss

Hi Harsh,

Sorry I missed that in your post even though you had highlighted it in Bold. Embarrassing for me :flushed:.

I did some further looking into this issue to see if I could find the default CVar for these name plates.

I would try copying these one at a time and pasting them in game:

/run SetCVar(“nameplateSelectedScale”, 1.0)
/run SetCVar(“nameplateGlobalScale”, 1.0)

Hope this helps!

I just tried both of those… no change. Still tiny nameplates

Even changed the value to see if it would help, doesn’t do anything actually.

Okay.

I have one more:

/run SetCVar(“nameplateVerticalScale”, 2.7)

Try that

just did, no change. Yes, I’m also doing a /reload to force the UI to reload. Didn’t do anything.

I am in-game using a CVar Browser add-on to see if I can see any more default values.

Update: So there are a lot of Nameplate CVars.

Question: Do you have a CVar editing Addon? Are you opposed to getting one to test your CVars and see what has been changed from default.

My guess is that you had an addon that made an adjustment to a CVar and we just need set it back to its default.

I appreciate your help,

The only nameplate mod I used was Kui Nameplats. If that changes CVars, I don’t know. I didn’t adjust any settings in Kui or the Blizzard UI. I simply changed specs to tank a few times back and fourth then it messed up my main and didn’t fix the issue no matter what I did.

I don’t know how it got screwed up, and why deleting the game running without mods, and matching all settings to my other characters isn’t doing anything.

Really irritating! LOL, I did open up an in-game support ticket.

Yes this addon will make changes to CVars to obtain the UI looks and aesthetics of the game. I just dont know off the top of my head which ones it changes, I am quite familiar with how to view/edit them though back to default if you want to give that a shot.

Yeah, well it’s got to be something it did. Bugged out when I switched specs or something.

Its now a server side setting it changed, because it’s doing it on another computer. I just checked. (which was pretty much ruled out when I re-installed).

I’m just hoping the blizzard response will tell me what I can do to fix it.

K, well I just fixed it… but at a pretty large cost! haha

Reset everything I’ve ever changed… but I did

/console cvar_default

and the bars are back to normal. I just have to get my UI scale back to where it was, and a few other minor settings.

I understand if you want to wait for Blizzards response.

If you want to keep troubleshooting I would download the Addon “AdvancedInterfaceOptions” here you can use the “CVar Browser”. Now I wouldn’t recommend changing to many things in the CVar Browser, but the great thing about this addon is it will show you any CVars that are NOT Default in RED.

You can then sort all the CVars by name using the filter “nameplate” then make sure that nothing is showing up in Red. If it is Red you can hover over it and it will tell you what the default is for that CVar.

Now after all of this you are unable to resolve the issue. I would make a forum post in the UI and Macro boards. That is where you will find someone who knows more about this then I do.

Good looking out man. I’ll checkout the Addon to browse the CVar’s.

I did resolve the issue with a full CVar reset, but for the future that addon sounds helpful.

Thanks again for your help, it certainly did point me in the right direction to get things back to normal!

This was so unbelievably healpful.
Thanks for looking into this.
I’ve had one of my alts stuck in this same situation and I literally just couldn’t play him because it was so hard to deal with.
You have saved my alts life!!!
