I so want to get one of these things!
You can already play it quite easily and with okay performance on a SteamDeck.
steam deck exists already
i had a laptop once but then i realised i never used the portability side of it.
its beefy desktops for me forever now.
portability has zero charm for me it’s not like im a busy guy
Yes. Linus covered that. SteamDeck is 720p. This thing is 1080p and runs Doom Eternal at 50-60 FPS on high settings. WoW would be a cakewalk for that little thing.
And that’s fair. But, sometimes you can get away with playing a cell phone game or handheld game at work, while using a laptop you couldn’t. Plus, just pulling this thing out at the park and using your cell as a wireless hotspot to do a few WQs would be awesome.
higher resolution/fps/settings - less battery.
As a switch owner - resolution barely matters on small screen
steamdeck is 800p but on the small screen, you really cant tell too much that its not 1080p. you will be playing with the graphics on low on either machine. Plus the steamdeck is WAYYYY cheaper…
If i sound like a steamdeck fanboy, its because I am. its super cool.
Which you can change in the game settings. I’m just saying, we haven’t seen a really good way to play WoW in a portable way, minus a significantly more expensive laptop for the same or better performance. From what he said in the video, you can get about 2 hours of play time at max settings without having to charge it, but could probably eek out 4-6 by lowering some settings like screen brightness and in-game performance settings.
steamdeck man… 400 bucks runs wow at 40fps on low, or $2000 for wingpd4 to run it at what, graphics level 4 at 60? im not saying it isnt a cool handheld. you just cant beat the price to performance of the steamdeck
Where did you get $2000? It’s $799.
Lucky… I’m forever and always on the road. So I live and die by portability. Which is why I’ll pay $5k for a high end gaming laptop.
ah, my mistake. I quickly glanced at the backer page and misread it. that’s pretty damn good then… the WinGPT’s have all been over $1000 so far so it looks like they are really trying to compete with valve now. that’s cool
Laptops are the best.
You can play wow while laying in bed.
yea! trackpads are the best way to play, especially in pvp, lol.
I use a mouse
I thought they did something to stop you from being able to “stream” it?
Ive tried it. as someone who used to put in about 150 nights a year in a hotel. id use the pillows to build a desk for my mousepad play for about 30 minutes, then go back to the real desk, heh. its hard to do comfortably
I find it quite simple.
I just use the big area to the right of my touchpad as the mouse mat. It has enough room to easily move the mouse across the screen. You just have to keep hold of it or else it will fall off XD
Been doing it for like 6 years now.
I think I’m too fat to have my arms in that position, lol. But, hey, if it works for you more power to ya. A good gaming laptop is obviously the better experience if you can afford it. I went through a couple while i was in the field (over 10 years), so when steamdeck came along, I was ready for a change.
