According to Icy-Veins, I should pop DnD and keep doing my single target rotation, but my first instinct is to just spam Scourge strike and Epidemic while I’m fighting 5 or 6 mobs. Festering Strike seems like a waste of runes during DnD. Which is correct?
i think it just depends on where your resources are.
There isnt really a answer.
If you have the runes to drop a festering strike and pop those sores, you should.
If you dont, well then, you dont and cant.
No, you should never use Festering Strike during DnD. Once you’ve used your DnD, you should only be pressing scourge strike and epidemic.
realistically,
if the trash will live long enough for full setup, then you tab target with festering strike(assuming you have bursting sores) until you have a few wounds on a few targets, dump RP with epidemic to get runic corruption proc’c, then once you have 3ish runes back, pop dark trans, drop dnd and spam the crap out of scourge strike.
i’ve found it helps to weave epidemic in between scourge strikes to try and maximize runic corruption uptime.
however, if the trash is just trash and will die quickly, (assuming you have infected claws as well) then dark trans, drop dnd, then spam scourge strike/epidemic/faceonkeyboard/whatever, you are just trying to get damage out before everything is dead, don’t bother going for setup or maxing out damage.
if you have the haste for high rune regen, then try to hit adds with festering strike just before they die, you will get stacks of festermight, and runic power when they do, allowing for more and more potent epidemics.
This sounds like a cop out answer, but it depends.
Add together the Festering Strike and the total damage of its average wound generation, and divide them by two. If multi-target Scourge Strikes or Clawing Shadows is doing more damage per rune than Festering strike, you want to stick with Scourge Strikes.
Bursting Sores changes the threshhold, because it has insane quadratic scaling with Dark Transformation and the talent that gives your ghoul wounds on proc.
Typically in AoE, I want to enter DnD with an empty runic power bar, so I can squeeze in as many Scourge or Claws as possible into the window. I can use Epedemic or Festering strike before or after the DnD window, but because DnD is only up 1/3 of the time at max, I want to maximize every DnD window.
It’s better to pop DT early to allow it to stack up wounds before you use DnD (using infected Claws as you should be doing)
Welcome to ‘clunksville’!
UDK just has clunky unintuitive mechanics. (Like this DND setup garbage) It’s really bad.
You should just be able to throw down a DND and have it ALONE do good AOE damage. Not this clunky mess it currently is. Where by you have to tab target mobs, stand in the DND, hope the mobs live long enough for you to have made it worth youR while (and resources) fiddling with all that poop.
It’s just such a great spec…it’s ashame BLIZ has half-butt cobbled the mechanics together. I love unholy DK, I love necrotic strike and the concept behind that; but damn it’s just a unmitigated boogered up mess to play!
It’s taken me a while to get used to it, but this seems to work best for trash packs in mythic+ below 12-15s where the mobs live longer.
Outbreak > Dark Transformation > Festering Strike x1 on main target > Soul Reaper > Epidemic > DND > spam Scourge Strike until DND expires
I do that on every trash pack, and get some really nice dps numbers!
we already have plenty of classes that do well with few button presses., you could even say we have 1 class too many in that department.
Agree.
If he wants an “easy” way to do AOE, Frost is suuuuper easy and spammy.
Yea. I’ve been on the fence about playing Frost. The only thing that I hate for Frost is in PvP, everything revolves around that stupid Chill Streak bouncy ball mechanic. And I struggle in 2’s a lot more as Frost.
If they would front more damage to big obliterate Crits that would be awesome. Take the damage all being loaded into Chill Streak and Corruption, put more of my damage back into my main core abilities and I’d be happy playing Frost. The Frost playstyle is more enjoyable (to me) than is Unholy right now.
But yes…your assessment is correct. I FAR and away prefer the current playstyle of Frost!
I’ll probably just say screw it and play what I like the most…which is Frost. Even if it’s not ‘the best’? I don’t know though. Frost PvP is a good bit behind that of Unholy imo.
