Hey all,
I’m rolling UH for arenas and Rbgs because I’m a glutton for punishment and I love my main spec too much. I recently picked up a 216 Inscrutable Quantum Device and have been debating if its worth using in place of my cc break trinket. I have a few pros and cons and wanted some other DKs opinions.
Pros:
Acts as a cc break when cc’d.
Can heal for a guaranteed 29.5k once I dip below 20%.
Can act as a 20k arcane damage execute if the enemy is below 20%.
Can refund healer mana.
Also gives a 13% vers buff if used with no other conditional met.
Cons:
It shares a CD with medallion so I can’t stack them.
No vers trinket buff.
It fills so many roles I find it hard to determine when to use it. e.g. I break a clone but shortly afterward could’ve used it to heal to full or vice versa.
I’ve only really tested it during one night of rbgs, so naturally I’m looking for a bit more data. From my perspective bonus kill damage and healing is pretty saucy for UH because of the state of the spec and the meta, but I wanna get some other(hopefully higher rated >.>) opinions.
I personally prefer the PVP trinket combo. It’s the boring answer, but the versatility benefit is way too good to pass up. That extra mitigation+healing will come in the clutch versus melee cleaves that train you from start to finish
You can use both damage trinkets though. You’ll find that as Unholy, teams don’t find it particularly useful to peel you. A lot of our damage comes from our pets, and a lot of the damage we do ourselves can be done at range.
There are many arena scenarios where you could probably get away with not using Medallion. IQD has some great potential, I’d just question the reliability of it. Your biggest weakness as Unholy, besides ramp-up burst with an easily killable pet, is mitigation outside CDs. The versatility bonus helps with that.
But honestly, I can see IQD working really well if you time it correctly, just personally not a fan. I mostly run 2s though, Unholy in 3s is a challenge and Rated BGs want you to play Frost for Chill Streak+Frostwyrm Fury. I still think Unholy is a viable PVP spec, and I think it can shine in 2v2 and rated BGs. Burst cleave potential has no limits really, and ST burst is disgusting if theres no LOS to utilize (like Arathi Basin, for example). It’s also vastly underrated in 1v1 scenarios, which is a plus
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that the trinket 2 set bonus only applies to damage and not healing, and doesn’t affect the damage mitigation of vers. But this is the main thing that sticks in my craw about IQD as well, since vers is so strong.
As for frost I’m one of those unfortunate few who kinda hate it, so I’m just aiming to keep honing my skills on UH. The one plus of being off meta is the survivability and utility tricks you get to practice. Thanks for the response!
You’re right actually, it only affects damage and healing, so you don’t gain any mitigation benefit from the trinket bonus.
I’m not a big fan of the current Frost DK iteration either, so you’re not alone there. I see you’re using Death’s Embrace too, it’s awesome vs almost all classes. No problem though man, glad to see another Unholy DK in PVP out there
