Yes, I know it’s still too early to be complaining about damage, and everyone is still leveling and gearing out….but in no way shape or form, should I be losing to tanks in AOE damage in dungeons, when I pop CDs (Minus army). Every time a pack is pulled, I’m quiet literally either just barely beating to tank or being beaten by the tank. Curious if anyone else has experienced this while leveling/gearing out.
DK was 3.2k rated, 154 ilevel before launch. I was always toping meters or close to it pre-launch. Now I am struggling to beat tanks….I’ve tried both San’layn and Riders and still see no difference.

Not sure why people think this. Tanks are known for dominating leveling dungeons, they absolutely PUMP AOE damage in them. It is basically the Tank show and the healer and DPS are just there to cheer them on.
Also you need to remember scaling is NUTS for the 81-89 bracket.

Seriously! I feel like I am hitting mobs with a wet noodle! Even questing mobs I feel like I do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

It is feeling a little low, but probably my lack of experience. However, I wonder if frost would be better for leveling over UH?
UH has some great ST, but its sustained aoe is lacking for sure. It is just how the class is designed. Even from beta testing, that is the case. You have good burst aoe, but the sustain aoe is lack luster.

That and they need to redesign clawing shadows. The reason why AOE for UH is bad is because it takes SO LONG to ramp up our clawing shadows. We need a better way to get the stacks up. Trying to maintain stacks between pulls is very difficult. Even at 226 ilevel I am still getting beat by a lot of classes up front if there isn’t 10 + mobs being pulled. Single target is pretty good.
Unholy’s damage needs some time to ramp while tank damage is usually very frontloaded in order to grab aggro. In normal and even some heroics it’s normal for your tank to be dominating the damage meters simply because enemies don’t live long enough for everyone else to ramp up.

Its probably because the tank has gear and you dont. Im doing the most damage in every dungeon on my BDK because everyone in my group is around 120 ilvl and I’m 170.
You’re missing tier set bonuses. I don’t know if youre maxed on your DK yet but apex talents also matter. SL UH DK is one of the best dps in the game but you’re also not doing a key where the mobs live long enough for your dots to actually do damage.
Im 227 ilevel currently and I’ve swapped between both hero talents. UH DK aoe is rough, maybe in mythic + it will be different but every other class has instant AOE while we have to build up our AoE. Single target damage is perfectly fine.
Mind you, it really doesn’t help that Unholy’s damage is so stacked into its cooldown window that you have to burn cooldowns to kill overworld mobs in a reasonable time frame.

i dont understand the logic of this. Why do people fixate on numbers so much? Did you complete the dungeon? Yes? Then whats the issue. Just turn the damage tracker off T.T
Because when you play at a higher level, the difference in DPS can make or break fights/progression. Some people don’t care about that stat and that’s fine, but the majority of players who PvP or PvE (whether M + or raid) do care about that number and statistic. Also, if a class is doing poorly, historically the community will tend to “not” invite that spec in favor of a better spec that can perform well.
In all honesty, what do DKs bring to a M+? Our AOE is lackluster outside of 10 + mobs, we have no buff to the group, sure we have death grip for 1 or 2 mobs but that’s about it. Our damage is not front loaded, it takes a while to ramp up. Even for San’layn, if you drop stacks, your burst phase on the boss or next pack will not be as impactful. Getting beat by a tank or DPS 15 to 20 ilevels lower than you because of a bad class design feels HORRIBLE.

This is my main issue with it. Outside of cooldowns, it’s like we’re at 60%. During cooldowns, we go up to 150%. I wish we had a steady neutral of like 100% instead of extreme highs and lows.

sanlayn is worthless now after they nerfed it to oblivion
i fear they will nerf horseman further too as they want zero melee classes that are viable

the main problem for classes with long cds are the tanks you are grouped with
so classes like uh dk and sv will struggle when the tank pulls 1 pack at a time because our cds are down for 1/2 to 3/4 of the pulls

Yeah. UH is not feeling good and the rotation is not where it should be. Still way to many globals needed. It is a joke outside of cooldowns and for the love of all that is Unholy why cant they get rid of the 1.5 GCD with this spec.
