So i main Beastmaster hunter and im ilvl 298 pushing mythic raid but Mage Tower is still whooping me. Any advice yall can give for the BM challenge? I try targetting the tauren first and dodging swirlies but something keeps one shotting me.
Stupid question, but have you tried looking up a guide on YouTube?
Yeah and i tried following what it said but they make it look a lot easier. I guess im just not doing something right.
From what I remember, you just have to get the rhythm of your interrupts down. I moved Ice Trap and Intimidate to my hotbars. Kill the adds ASAP. Once you can make it through a whole cycle, you can do it over and over until he’s dead.
Yeah lots of reps will help.
Just treat it like progging a boss.
A lot of good guides on the channels that are not so big. Dont go to the mainstream channels if you want real help. Most of them are just there to show off and brag and make it look easy.
Try channels with hundreds or thousands of subs, not millions. Those with lots of subs only want to show the content to promote it and get monetized. They care nothing about helping you are me one bit.
Mage Tower does 2 things:
- Makes your gear useless with scaling
- Is super tuned you have to get it perfect. Timing on interrupts, negates, damage. Everything has to be hit perfect or you can’t do it.
I’ve gotten a solid 300 tries in on Mage Tower and over 100k gold sunk into gear and chants and consumables, and almost every time I will just be too slow on one thing or another, miss an interrupt or step into a yeet mechanic and lose.
It’s over-tuned content that shouldn’t be as hard as it is, IMO, for what the rewards are.
You’re getting 1-shot by the fel burst of the tauren. Never letting one get through is a major part of the encounter.
While watching a youtube guide can help, it’s also worth just pulling up the written guide on wowhead to get your bearings in terms of ability names.
It’s also always worth it to spend the gold on a solid mage tower set. (Not a perfect set, which is way too time consuming and expensive, just a solid one - the PvP MoP Crafted set “dreadful gladiator” is enough). This guide really lays it out:
It’s actually relatively fast to put together the set this way. Just buy the pieces you need (assuming your AH is on a pretty active server, some of the less active ones might be missing them, since the region-wide AH patch didn’t link the AH’s for gear being auctioned). Get the enchants and gems (aside from the unique gems that give higher agility, for the regular gems +3 agility gems are good enough, +4’s regular gems tend to be gouged).
You’ll find yourself doing waaaaaay more damage relative to the fight, which will still be a really hard fight.
I also found that DBM was having some inconsistent performance lately on the mage tower. Not sure why. I switched to using weakauras to alert me to abilities. And adding some other weak auras to help keep me a little more aware of some of my own cooldowns.
You’ll also want to create macros (an interrupt macro to instantly target and interrupt Tugar, a freezing trap macro to place it on your cursor to speed up trapping Tugar, a pet-stun macro for Tugar for if your interrupt is down and you don’t have the second to spare that a freezing trap takes, a macro to target and kill the fel surge totem, a macro to cast “scare beast” on the boss worm).
The big turning point for me when I got it done on beastmaster hunter was getting proficient at reliably and quickly freeze trapping Tugar to interrupt his fel burst. Sometimes the extra second a freeze trap will take because you’re a bit far from him can really screw you over, and if your interrupt is down, that’s when you use pet stun.
The other thing is you really need to get the ravaged seed pod trinket off the first boss of Emerald Nightmare. It’s the strongest trinket for doing this challenge, and very easy to farm (first boss of instance). You want to use the trinket in the middle of seeds when the seeds appear (and you want to drop it early when the seeds appear, it’s less useful if you’re dropping it only after the worms have hatched, maybe because it’s easier to keep aoe up when they’re not hatched without dodging the extra swirlies).
Press Recap.
You’ll see what keeps killing you.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
mage tower is no joke , sometimes is just pure luck too , but interrupts , snares and what not need to be almost on point
is frustrating but fun!
