I’m barely coping with the most boring version of dwarves ever imagined, and now we’re getting a full patch of EYYY HOW YOU DOIN IM TRYIN TO MONEY OVER HEEERE
Siren Rock is so ugly. Rocks and coal miner industry and greedy little trogs shrieking about profit margins
I get enough of that in the real world. Where’s the fantasy? Where’s the unique identity?
The Emerald Dream was gorgeous. Brimming with personality (actual personality, not manufactured stereotypes).
It says something when I would rather be interacting with the PvP community than going out into -this- world.
‘Look how wacky and greedy our goblins are everyone!’ hit real good back in '04 but twenty years later this is the highest fantasy you people can produce in your genre leading high fantasy franchise?
The Emerald Dream felt more heavily Night-Elf centric as opposed to the Green Dragonflight & wild gods.
Personally I think the awe-appeal, fantasy and hype for the Emerald Dream was butchered when they F’d with the lore @ Shadowlands, with Ardenweald.
Kinda seems like you’re reaching. Many franchises & fantasy genres have their own depictions of various civilisations of fantasy-races and such.
It’s not really a bad thing, it’s just what it is.
If they have something unique & quirky – Fantastic, but for the most part as long as the story is intriguing and it presents interesting opportunities for the genre or game down the track — That’s what matters the most.
I agree I like the idea of goblins, but then reality hits and they are just annoying. So far the themes of this expansion being the rock dwarves and now goblins is a pretty big letdown considering the overall theme of this trilogy it does nothing for me.
Night Elves can have a major B plot in every expansion since Legion, but goblins can’t show up strong in a patch for the first time since their starting zone.
They’re rather unique in that in the different lands, there’s some variation of other races, like Trolls, Humans, Orcs, Elves, but not so much Goblins at all. Rather, if anything, they look related to Imps.
The backstory adds to their uniqueness, in that they were slaves to Trolls in Kezan forced to mine Kaja’mite. However, the exposure made them highly intelligent and creative, and subsequently powerful to overthrow the Trolls. They have one of the most powerful navies Azeroth and in some respects, should (or could) be their own major power.
Overall, there’s something a bit sad about them, whereas they were forced to be exposed to Kaja’mite which made them intelligent, skilled, and inventive, but they’re obsessed with profit, almost as if that being a curse, as well as explosions, and seemingly lower value on life.
I’m reminded of Star Trek and the “prime directive” failing and resulting in a race acquiring advanced technology before they can grasp the wisdom how to best use it; the premature acquisition before “they’re ready” having disruptive, at times tragic, consequences for their society.
As a mostly elf-hater, Emerald Dream was a snooze.
As if we didn’t have Val’Sharah, Ardenweald, Ashenvale, Felwood, Winterspring, Teldrassil, Eversong Woods, Feralas, Azsuna, Ghostlands- look, you get it, alright?
How many Goblin-themed zones, do we have? Aside from their starting zone?
…Yeah, lmao. They make appearances in several zones, but the zones aren’t inherently ‘goblin-themed’ like all the elf forests and whatnot.
But never, ever, a full zone- I think this is actually the first.
Elven forests are just as bland to me as human castles.
Legit got the Gilneas treatment, it’s supposed to be a major settlement, but where are the towns and houses? There is NOTHING here.
Which is my fear for pretty much anything going forward, that we’ll just get more empty zones. C’mon show me a Gob casino with actual interactive tables and bars and stuff!
