Ubisoft Plus my opinion

So being a sort of Gamepass connoisseur i am (Okay i’m not, i like Starfield, lol), i figured i would try somebody else’s sub for games service for once and see if they are any good. Of coarse my opinion would be a tad bit lower since were looking at a singular publisher/dev instead of multiple of them here, making for less quantity and variety possibly, of video games to pick from. Combined with the $18 USD asking price plus tax, and you got me kind of on the fence with this.

And it being Ubisoft, it’s like one side trying to pry me off the fence here.

But i digress, I do dig Ubisoft games from now and then (Mainly Assassin’s Creed Pre Origins, or any Far Cry game pretty much), and they ought to be recommended… and they ought to be avoided like desert mirages thinking you’re gonna get a blast from the past, instead of a complete stinking lie. Oops, guess were gonna start off negative huh? Let’s get this over with…

Assassin's Creed Mirage

Look, i can type up how i was introduced into AC, and how i became sort of a fan, then seen how it got misled a touch by AC4 (It’s a good pirate game, just a bad AC game) and i’ve haven’t touched any of the modern AC’s post Syndicate ever since. Until … well… months ago when i’ve decided to play this game because, ya know, they said their going back to the roots or something like that annnnnnnnnnd…

Well, let’s just say, i know how a Dead rising Fan felt when the same happened to 4.

This isn’t Assassin’s Creed 2… It’s Valhalla 0.5. Trying to remap the controls to what it’s like with AC4 or Revelation was a nightmare… (The Free run down can’t be mapped to the counter button without Basim crouching IN COMBAT, WOT.) The Combat is just sloppy Dark souls (And i’ve played Elden Ring for a good 90 minutes. Also, nothing like the older games in feel and responsiveness), and i seriously do not care for the protagonist at all. “Oh i want to be in the creed because i’m a fan of them!”… like… really? No actual motivation? Oh when were just going to skip all the training and such like we did where in AC2, you spent like chapters seeing how Ezio go from fists to having a wrist gun?! And you tell me this is going back to the roots, huh? :expressionless:

I did like Bagdad and how nice it looks, but that can be said for any Ubisoft Game. And tbh, the Stealth is pretty great in this one too. But everything else…

Nah, Uninstall. I hate being lied to Ubisoft. I could go on, but i’m holding back. Because this thread is long enough as it is. That and i don’t want it just to be about AC:M. There’s other games to cover so… Moving on.

Hungry Shark World

What? You never heard of Hungry Shark World? Why it’s the second most world famous indie game, next to The Witcher 3.

Sarcasm aside, this was a mobid curiousity for me, and it kind of looked like a sucesser to Feeding Frenzy, with a bit of tripwire’s Maneater feel to it. So i’ve given it an install, and … the controls feel werid. Not complicated or a nightmare to remap like the… Other game… just weird. Mouse and Keyboard certainly didn’t got me anywhere, so i’ve used a controller here too.

And it’s a mobile game ported to PC. You bite stuff, survive as along you can, die, get stuff, repeat…

Eeeeeehh, i mean i guess if i have it on my phone, it would be kind of neat to click on, play as a straving shark for 5 minutes and log off, but as a PC port, it’s gonna be a pass for me chief. I don’t hate it, i just don’t jive with it.

Far Cry 1

I’m honest to god convinced that Far Cry is the only good, if not decent franchise Ubisoft have left. Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, 4, 5… Even the weaker ones like Primal and New Dawn, they are all great imo. Yes, even 6. The supposed worst one of the series. Say what you will about 6, but it’s a solid Far Cry, despite having so many things that are wrong or shouldn’t be in a Far Cry game. Even Far Cry 2 is pretty great as well, despite being pretty limited in comparison to 3, even with pretty simplifed stealth.

… So why i haven’t played Far Cry 1? I mean i know why i haven’t played Instincts and Vengeance… Yes, they were pumping out Far Cries, before they pumped out Far Cries… but for the first game, i got to know what’s up… And umm… It’s… umm… uuuuuuuum…

…Well, has many of the Far Cry 3 things like throwing rocks, stealthing around, using the scope to spot bases. No open world. Actually, it’s more reminiscent to something like those early 2000’s shooters with level designs that are mazelike with ammo hunting and so on, and with enemies that tear you to shreds if you’re not paying attention. One of the moments i can recall is the part where i have to pass though guys with rockets with a jeep. And much like 2, stealth is almost non existent. As well the animals.

Unlike 2, i pretty much stopped playing because… well. I don’t like it. I don’t hate it, i just think it didn’t age gracefully as much as 2. So… This is the only Far Cry game i don’t see my self loving. And it’s the first game.

Watch Dogs 2

Okay being upfront, i did played this on Gamepass, but let’s be frank, when the hell i’m ever gonna talk about this game again?..

I’m not really even sure why i played this. I mean sure, it’s interesting to say the least, you’re a hacker guy, hacking the city, and you also have guns, epic memez, and there’s a guy with a cool design that would be way more interesting to play as instead.

But while i certainly have a better time with it compared to others… that’s not saying much. I just think has an air of being generic open world shooter/driving/assassin’s creed thing. With hacking being the gimmick. A cool gimmick, sure, but it kind of boils down to just having cooldowns or superpowers. And it’s kind of uninteresting to actually play though. Driving is pretty bad tho.

Idk, it’s kind of hard to say something about a franchise that i forgot it even existed until i’m reminded of it.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora

Speaking of a franchise that i forgot it exists until i was reminded of it, James Cameron the blue aliens. No, only Avatar: the last airbender is allowed to use “Avatar”. This is just blue aliens.

When i first saw this game in action on Twitter, my monkey brain noticed something and went “What is that, a Far Cry clone?”… So out of curiousity, i’ve tried it.

And the first hour of tutorial, you start off as a blue alien, watching your human overlord murders your sister (I see even in 2023, Ubisoft still loves the “I need to get revenge for my dead family member” cliche…) and you crawl tho vents until you get out to… and i have to admit, the best damn looking game world i’ve EVER seen ever in the history of history. No joke, Pandora doesn’t just look beautiful… it’s a dream. And it was then i’ve discovered that techincally i was right about it being a Far Cry clone, indirectly… because it’s actually more like a Dying Light clone. And i’ve done nothing but hopping, floricking about all over the jungle and such, from tree to rock and such, climbing and such, and even reading my screenshot button for some nice juicy shots.

The Emerald Dream in WoW WISHES to be Pandora. This is Legit Ubisoft’s best work on the graphics to date, and it’s a shame that after this, it would never peak again. Maybe this is what it’s like to see Jame Cameron’s The Blue guys. Seeing so much time, blood sweat and tears, and money of coarse, going into one of the most beautiful enviroments ever. I even see werid horse animals getting stuck on something until i put it out of it’s misery. And i enjoyed the gathering minigames, even though it’s optional. The game really immerses you this way.

So great, awesome game, right?

Sighs in and sighs out in a long drawn out matter

  • Gunplay is actually kind of terrible (Aside from Punching enemies in the face),
  • The stealth is almost non existent (Which is not exactly understandable, if a kid from fictional cuba can hide in bushes with a Jetpack strapped to them and an RPG and flamethrower, why can’t a blue tribal alien do the same?..)
  • There’s INVISIBLE WALLS AND BOUNDRIES,
  • The ui blends in the game in the worst way possible,
  • The perks/traits are uninspired…
  • And as much i praise the game for having a fully realized and beautiful looking Pandora… It’s actually unplayable at the worst times, and best, hard to navigate or to know which to climb on.
  • I’m also not a fan how you need to scamper on stuff to climb by mashing Space. It’s finickcy and going back to the comparison i’ve made earlier, it’s nothing like Dying Light 1. Heck, nothing like Far Cry either. And i’m honestly, the one time they should, they didn’t.

I really want to recommend buying this game, but i just can’t, and it’s kind of heartbreaking. :frowning:

THE ONE TIME I WAS INTRODUCED TO JAMES COPPERON AND THE DISCOUNT DRE-KNEES, AND UBISOFT MESSED IT UP. OH UBISOFT. :man_facepalming:

YOU WERE DOING SO WELL WITH SOUTH PARK.

The Crew Motorfest

I was going to try out The Crew 1, until they announced they were going to be turning off the servers and stop selling 1 and 2. So thanks Ubisoft.

But this game ain’t too bad.

It’s an MMO-kinda game where you have challenges and you can level/rank up as you go. And the Driving feels solid, and the races are fun. And customizing your Car with car parts that drop like gear is pretty good and all. And it’s pretty reminmsicent to Midnight Club 3, where you can have different races with different types of cars, like with muscle cars, or motorcycles. There’s even Planes and Boats to pilot which… personally, i’m not here for that.

Ain’t too bad if you want an MMO alternative.

Wish it has an offline single-player mode, but that’s just me.

$70 is much, but keep an eye on it when a sale hits.

I mean i guess the same could be said for James cameron’s Pandora Frontier too.

Assassin's Creed Rogue

It’s Black Flag again, but you’re a Templar. Bought it atfer my sub ended. Pretty underrated all things considered.

Okay to be fair… It does have a few unexpected tricks up it’s sleeve.

  • For one thing it has Assassin’s hunting you, kind of like the stalkers from Relevations, (Though their painfully easy to deal with)
  • The Story is a lot more better then in Black Flag, (As fun the story was in BF, it’s pretty bad)
  • Renovating land and cities makes sense since Templars control things,
  • You can get boarded yourself, a nice shake up from time to time,
  • There’s so many dang collectables, they can’t even come up with names for them and just call them collectable when you enter a new land, :grimacing:
  • Prickle Gun and Burning Oil for the Ship combat is a nice addition,
  • New York (1700’s New York mind) feels a bit like the older Assassin’s Creed games with it’s tall buildings to parkour all over, but less denser,
  • Glitchy-ier,
  • And you can even kill the citizens!! Despite the fact your protagonist has a BIG problem with that, talk about ludonarrative dissonance.

So those are the games, and out of all the 7 games i’ve picked, i only recommend 2, maybe 1 of them. But that’s kind of the nature of the sub to play multiple games services. You pay to demo a bunch of things, and leave with a few or sometimes 1 gem. Or just sub to pay, that’s valid too.

I can only recommend Ubisoft+ to those who really like Ubisoft games, but otherwise, Gamepass is the better option.
