OMFG, tyvm for fixing Explosive Shot Blizzard!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, finally something interesting and useful.
i dont understand it. Does it still travel slow and require us to manually blow it up before hitting the target still?
Na. Picture it like a debuff. It fires like a normal shot, and after 3 seconds of the debuff it explodes and does big AOE damage.10/18/2018 10:02 AMPosted by Munardi dont understand it. Does it still travel slow and require us to manually blow it up before hitting the target still?
Think of it like a dot, but instead of the damage being done in increments it's all at once at the end.
It functions like the old ES where it lodges into your target. Instead of it ticking fire damage over 3 seconds, it's gonna do fire damage after the 3 seconds are up dealing AE damage.10/18/2018 10:02 AMPosted by Munardi dont understand it. So it now works like ES from BC?

So, dispellable?
Not sure yet. I haven't hopped on the PTR yet.10/18/2018 12:55 PMPosted by Afterimage10/18/2018 10:04 AMPosted by Lazyguide...Na. Picture it like a debuff. It fires like a normal shot, and after 3 seconds of the debuff it explodes and does big AOE damage.

ES didn't come until wotlk. And even still, this new version isn't quite the same as the original survival ES. But it's more similar to the original design compared to the MM Legion design, though. Now let's hope this double tap projectile buggy garbage stays dead permanently.
When I tested it on the ptr it looks like the old explosive shot but instead of a ticking dot it just exploded when it ended.
And it looks like a magical debuff so yes it can be dispelled.

Can be dispelled, also, you have to run a rapid fire build now. Aimed Shot won't be worth casting in almost all situations. Make sure you are farming Rapid Fire traits for your gear if you plan on continuing to play MM in 8.1. You will either have them and do mediocre damage or you will be dead in the water.

it’s in test mode dude. no one knows where it will fall yet. they just put the changes on the ptr. Chill

I may have been thinking of WotLK pre-patch. I just remember attempting to use it in a Hijal raid.
Soooo... Hunters get a watered down living bomb. Blizzard can choke on its own spit for the whole "Class fantasy" excuse they gave out when they butchered this entire class. it was just a desperate attempt to make some other class the highest play rate in the game. Screwed over the people who actually enjoy playing the class over the others.... (Hey lets just gut every class only to give them a fraction of the tools they once had and call it an UPdate. DERP DE DERP DE DOO.)

This would be it. Explosive Shot was added in the WotLK systems patch, which was a month before the expansion launch. Generally systems patches are considered part of the next expansion because that's when everything is updated for the upcoming expansion. All the new content is added, too; it's just locked behind a serverside flag that is removed via hotfix on expansion day (this is why the content unlocking is always a few minutes off from the stated launch time). So usually people count 3.0 as WotLK not BC.
Hyjal was a popular testing ground during that patch because a) all the raids were nerfed by 30%, and b) it had a lot of AoE trash and 3.0 added a lot of AoE capabilities to all DPS specs.
On that note: Explosive Shot also did AoE splash damage back then. It was extremely powerful on beta. I.E. "SV is immediately and unquestionably one of the best DPS specs in the game" powerful. There was a lot of excitement for it and a ton of people were switching over, which was fairly new for Survival since it was sort-of a "meh" spec before then. They nerfed it very heavily right on launch (multiple times, if I remember correctly) so it went from being overpowered to underpowered. It's just not really possible to balance; it's too much AoE power in a single-target signature. So they removed the splash AoE component in the class tuning patch after WotLK launch.

I agree with this. Even though this is obviously a big improvement for Explosive Shot, it's still a shadow of its former self. Explosive Shot was once the signature ability for a spec. It had great interaction with the Lock and Load talent and was aesthetically one of the coolest abilities in the game. Now it's a utility talent for another spec with an excessive cooldown and, in my opinion, weaker visuals. I really don't think forcing Survival's old mechanics into MM is the answer. "Munitions expert" is something that deserves its own spec, and once upon a time we had that.
Hunters get a watered down living bomb.Living Bomb does abysmal damage. I don't even include it as part of my rotation, it's not worth the global. Sometimes I remember to put it on AoE packs, though I probably do better DPS when I don't remember and spend that time trying to get Heating Up procs instead. The only reason I have it as a talent is because if I don't select something, I keep getting a stupid message that says I have unused talents (it's the worst talent row of any spec imo).
The new Explosive Shot on the other hand does a very good amount of damage. It will be a valuable part of both ST and AoE rotations. It's best part however, is that the delay allows for very nice burst. On the PTR, Explosive + Aimed + Precise Shot all land at the exact same moment and do very nice damage (~25% of my health on Boss target dummy BEFORE crits).
Before testing I usually put changes into my model, which has proven remarkably accurate for MM since the first changes in alpha when I made it. The model suggests that on a sustained fight, new Careful Aim (which is the same DPM as the old CA) increases DPM by ~4.6%, and Explosive Shot increases DPM ~4.2% on ST, so reasonably close. That is before other possible modifiers to Aimed such as Steady Aim, etc. so ymmv. Regardless, the new Explosive Shot looks to be very promising both by the math and in testing against a dummy.
Having said that...
I agree with this. It is not ANYWHERE close to what it was. The fact that it has the same name is its only real similarity, which can feel insulting. Nevertheless, I think if you give it a chance you might like it. I have found it to be quite nice, and I don't say that frivolously, especially given its entire history.10/19/2018 12:13 PMPosted by BepplesExplosive Shot was once the signature ability for a spec. dont compare it to old ES, old ES is the best ability huntes ever had in this game, and this ES is a 40 sec CD, while old ES was a 6 sec CD.
I'll take a sticky grenade for marks where aoe is an issue.
But baseline would be better, maybe talented for an additional dot burn after hit?
MM still feels like it needs another signature shot at the base and ES would be a good candidate.
Trap dancing to squeeze extra old ES procs is a particularly fond hunter memory for me...
