Tyson vs Paul

July 20th on Netflix, “Iron” Mike Tyson comes out of retirement to face social media bad boy and boxer Jake Paul. Normally in a boxing match I would not put money on a 58 year old, but having seen the training videos of both men I’m thinking Jake’s made a serious mistake here, several in fact. Tyson is going to hurt him.

Paul can actually fight, and the age difference is troubling to say the least. But Tyson looks verty good in these videos, and in the era of testerone therapy, etc, the age factor can be mitigated some. I find myself hoping he rolls Paul.

By all accounts Jake a decent amateur, he’s got a solid punch and good stamina, but he’s flat-footed, has poor maneuverability and defense, and tends to telegraph his punches, he’d probably do well in the Golden Gloves but a real pro will kill him. And Tyson is a real pro, retired and aging but still the best of his day, and the Peekaboo style taught to him by Cuss D’Amato, which he uses so well, is not something Jakes style can stand up against.

Now Jake’s chief skill is in self-promotion and he does that very well, and being a long-time pro wrestling fan I can respect the hustle, building the hype and with it the buy rates, and Jake is a natural heel people will pay money to hopefully see him get his you-know-what kicked, but I think he went overboard on this one. This was supposed to be an exhibition fight, Rocky Balboa coming out of retirement to face Mason Dixon, good theatre with a lucrative payday. But Jake apparently had to reference Tyson’s late daughter in one of his promos, that was a serious mistake, he made this personal and Tyson’s going to punish him for it.

Feels like a cash-grab and I really hope Tyson isn’t planning on taking a dive. I’d love nothing more than to see Tyson KO this clown in round 1. Jake needs a full serving of humble pie, and it would be hilarious to see it dished up by somebody more than twice his age.

Yes, Jake Paul will lose, but he will still make a lot of money.

Money-wise a great payday, but in Pro-boxing terms it’s a Lose-Lose for him. Jake wins he beats a 58 year old retired legend, nobody’s going to be impressed by that, he loses he gets beat by a 58 year old retired legend, nobody’s going to be impressed by that.

Boxing is still around? Seriously, that sport is barbaric and should’ve been abolished a hundred years ago. It severely damages the brains of the athletes, and many are often ruined for life after retirement. I think blood sports should be banned.

This is why it’s important to eat your opponent once you’ve defeated them.

Teddy Atlas’ you tube channel has some good breakdowns on this fight.

Absolutely not. People have the right to do whatever they want with their body.

Plus, if we’re going to ban something, I would rather they ban any form of rock climbing (that includes mountains and hiking) and motor sports.

I bet more people have died crashing their car / motorcycle / ATV while racing than anyone has boxing.

I bet the same is true for people that like to climb a mountain, a rock face or go hiking 20 miles into the middle of no where. And what makes this worse than motor sports is when one of these herp derps get lost or stuck, the state has to spend thousands of dollars in tax payer money to go get them, whether or not they’re dead.

Tyson might go down because of his age. He is not as fast, or punch as hard. This will be a fiasco. I do, however, hope for a knockout in the first or second round. Tyson probably does not have the stamina. but he might use his experience to lure Paul and knock him out.

And here we go…

I hope Tyson sends him into the Shadowlands

Sadly, Hopes & Expectations vs Reality, it looks like Tyson came in with an injured knee, not enough to stop him competing but enough to kill his legendary footwork, without the ability to sufficiently run that Peekaboo Style he was no match. And as much as I hate to admit it Jake played it smart, he fought Defensively, something he was never known for before, using his own speed and reflexes to keep Tyson from getting in close. Still, Mike did well for a 58 year old, he went the distance and lost by decision, better than anyone else of his age could have done.

So now the only question is Who is Jake Paul going to challenge next: Ric Flair? Teddy Swims? Caitlyn Jenner? Who?

Alyssa Mercante? I heard she likes to scrap and is willing to promote herself for a paycheck.
