That is how she has been written since Cata. Her only purpose is to show the “human potential” of characters like Varian and Anduin by showing “how much wiser” they are than a 10K+ year old priestess and warrior.
I agree wholeheartedly
Basically this.
I did not like her rudeness against Anduin!
But then, after humiliating the Night elves, destroying Teldrassil and killing an obscene number of night elves, making Tyrande act like a bitter old woman, hysterical and stupid, it was just another nail in the coffin of the Kaldorei, in BfA!
Well done, Blizzard!
But the worst has passed, for she has already had her thirst for revenge satiated!
Kalidar was an island that Teldrassil was grown on. Not a continent. They lost a cursed worldtree that was a bad idea to begin with. Please stop exaggerating.
Tyrande is impulsive, not wise.
The trunk was the size of the island.
The tree itself was indeed a continent in the sky with branches larger than kingdoms and its own ecosystem. Right there in the lore.
No longer cursed, it was cleansed and blessed back in Cata.
Please learn the lore before you try to insult me. I’m not exaggerating.
“Teldrassil was the name given to the island, but only as an afterthought. The island was only an extension of the true Teldrassil… a titanic tree filling most of the land rising so high, the top vanished in the clouds. Its branches were so vast that they dwarfed some kingdoms. The thick crown could have housed an entire civilization — and did.”
— A description of the World Tree Teldrassil during the Cataclysm
Some kingdoms (Dalaran) are just cities. Alterac is pretty tiny, too.
It was not a continent. That’s Kalimdor - where most Night Elves actually lived - and still do.
Teldrassil isn’t a city. Darnassus was the city.
I literally quoted the lore for you. Way to just ignore it.
Let’s try this again:
Owing to its size, Teldrassil possessed its own unique ecosystem with a various flora, fauna, and vast twilit forests.
The island was only an extension of the true Teldrassil… a titanic tree filling most of the land rising so high, the top vanished in the clouds. Its branches were so vast that they dwarfed some kingdoms. The thick crown could have housed an entire civilization — and did.
Continents come in different sizes. Pandaria is a continent and it’s much smaller than Kalimdor. The trunk was the size of the entire island. The crown was much bigger with branches the size of kingdoms. The crown was huge. And much of the Nelf population lived there-- especially after it was cleansed and blessed.
Tyrande’s been basically psycho since MOP. She went nuts even before Jaina did. Then you add in Moira Thaurassian who’s always been laughably delusional and Genn who can’t think past “gonna get me a Sylvanas” and I feel sorry for Anduin: he’s inexperienced and surrounded by stupid.
How is she psycho?
Impulsive, sure. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen psycho.
I think for a 10k year old being she clearly can’t see the long game (completely unrealistic and acts like petulant child which is completely in the writing for the Alliance leadership ALWAYS as they either act like this or are morons), but it makes for a nice bit of drama with Anduin to surely be revisited at some point. However, at least she is showing some emotion and is trying to get back to her badass roots (finally) after the garbage of pining for Malfurion in Legion.
But let’s be honest they have to do SOMETHING to move the character along even if it is completely unrealistic from any point of view. At least Genn follows suit which is in keeping in character for good reason. But the whole “resolution” of Dark shore falls flat because now it’s all done with the Warfront and all we did was manage to kill 1 Valkyr and of course now Tyrande is going to sit still, such a whopping victory for the Alliance…and people wonder why the faction is dying.
You don’t remember in MOP during the Krasarang Wilds chain where she’s crazy bloodthirsty and wants to go kill all the Horde and Varian is like “How about instead we chill for a moment and see what’s actually going on?” Then she get’s all pissy and sulks.
Then when Malfurion is kidnapped in Legion she’s threatening to kill the Horde players just for showing up before basically forcing them to go find her useless husband, the same guy who’s supposed to be UBERDRUID yet can’t even beat a shadow of Xavius.
And of course her BFA storyline where she’s basically “Screw the Alliance, time to go kill all Horde again even though it’s one person who actually did the deed.”
Yeah, Tyrande’s not sane friend. Is there some justification for her mindset? Sure. But she’s not firing on all cylinders for someone 10,000+ years old.
Nothing is more obnoxious and annoying than fantasy fans always trying to justify the perfection and unparalleled wisdom and experience of an elf race simply because they are thousands of years old.
Seriously, just drop it. I understand where they are coming from, but if we are to take this nonsense seriously then there shouldn’t be any other races to play save elves.
Elf age is just as contrived as human potential if you ask me.
She also ordered the slaughter of members of both factions in WC3 without stopping to ask them what they were doing in Kalimdor. Honestly the Night Elves have had this coming for a long time and Tyrande is a monster.
I don’t remember crazy bloodthirsty. I remember she was ready to fight and hated why they were doing to the land. Nelfs are supposed to be wild and fierce.
I didn’t play through the zones as Horde, so I didn’t know about these threats. Though after everything the Horde has done since Cata, it’s not as if she’d be okay with them at first.
Well, that’s an entirely different subject, but it is the Nightmare and Xavius has been planning all of this for a while. Even Malorne was caught by the Nightmare.
The entire Horde took over the sacred forests and then didn’t exactly tell bat crazy dead lady “sorry, no, not bombing a tree.”
Wars started by one person aren’t just against one person. They’re against those who follow said person.
She’s sane. Fierce and impulsive. Written poorly, as well. But she’s not psycho. That’s a bit harsh. Sylvanas is psycho. Tyrande is impulsive and irrational at times.
Because she had no idea who they were. Nefls aren’t happy peaceful hippies. They’re wild and fierce beings.
I’m sorry, but no civilization deserves to be burned to the ground and mass murdered. Wth.
Uh… no. That’s Sylvanas.
And on that outrageous note, I’m going to leave this thread.
So only Sylvanas can be a monster? Sylvanas is the bad guy now, I guess that means no other character in the game can do anything wrong. Tyrande isn’t evil, she’s just impulsive (it’s just a coincidence that her impulsivity often leaves a wake of corpses)
Are you kidding? Tell that to the people of North Korea or the non SS members of Germany in 1939. They don’t/didn’t exactly have a choice. Do as your told or die is a powerful motivator. But that’s a whole different thread.
Tyrande is willing to kill anyone under the Horde banner to get revenge on Sylvanas. She’s willing to break off from the Alliance to attain her revenge even though it would definitely result in the deaths of most, if not all of the nelfs and would significantly reduce the size, effectiveness and morale of the Alliance as a whole. She also basically told the Alliance to go f themselves when Malfurion was in trouble. If she’s not pyscho, then she’s without question the most widsom-deficient character in all of fantasy history.
Again are you kidding? If “I don’t know who you are but I’mma kill you anyway cuz I’m wild and fierce” isn’t a sign of insanity, I don’t know what is lol.
You seem to be of the opinion that when your leader does something bad that kills untold numbers it’s just “being a Nelf” but when a Horde leader commits an atrocity it’s “evil psycho.”
Accept it, don’t accept it, but Tyrande is quite a few cards short of a full deck
Yeah its a real mystery… Despite all the exhaustive and wondrous efforts of the devs, guess we’ll just never know.
Let me translate. “Crazy Bloodthirsty” is what Horde players call any Alliance character that survives being attacked by the Horde and is the slightest bit mad about being attacked instead of immediately rolling over and apologizing to the Horde for surviving.
There’s an old adage out there: “Everyone has a plan until they’re punched in the face.”
You could be the wisest man in the land. If someone came and trapped like almost every single one of your people–women and children who aren’t even involved with the military and a war that does not yet exist included–in a huge prison and then set it on fire, you would not calmly say “let’s see how this pans out”.
You would not be calm whatsoever. You would be horrified. And what would always follow that horror is anger.
Hate.
Not just hate. Justified hate. Hatred that is backed with necessity to directly addressed what just happened. That usually is retaliation.
People literally burned to death in that tree. Children burned to death. There is no doubt there were expectant mothers in there who were torched. They died in complete confusion. They cried out for Elune, but Elune could not do a thing to stop it. Their cries went unanswered. There’s an MMO that has a featured song that honestly fits the Burning of Teldrassil to a T.
Tyrande reacts like almost everyone else does. Recall that Velen loses his temper a lot and flies off the handle in Legion. Recall that Anduin’s immediate response to Teldrassil burning is to declare war and wage immediate siege on Lordaeron.
Had Tyrande continued to sit in a chair and ‘mull it over’, almost every single one of her surviving people would not have it. I can actually promise you that.
