Tyrande in Elegy vs 8.1

“Genn made a dismissive noise, somewhere between a huff and a snarl. “No. I would never betray that kindness by turning my back on them now. Sylvanas doesn’t understand that about the living. And she certainly doesn’t understand the Alliance. She is in for a rude awakening, and you can mark my words.” “

Genn here is telling Anduin why the Alliance will never split apart and that the Alliance has eachother’s backs. That Sylvanas’ plan to divide the Alliance would fail. Tyrande heard Genn speak that.

“Both men turned to see Tyrande standing in the doorway, still dressed in her priestess’s robes. Though her face was drawn with pain, there was a softness, a lightness to it that Anduin had not seen for days. She stepped toward them, holding a rolled-up scroll in one hand.

“I came to deliver bad news. I did not know that I would hear something to restore my very soul while doing so. Thank you for that.” “

Here we have Tyrande actually agreeing and is lifted up in spirit that the Alliance will not be divided. That ideals of unity matter.

Next, in 8.1, we have Tyrande going headstrong, turning her back on Stormwind and unity, when the Alliance needs everyone on board the most.

A lot of the fans of the Night Elves complained, so they’re tweaking the story. A lot of Night Elf fans don’t like that the Night Elf leadership would help the Alliance before helping their own people.

You can help both at the same time???

Aiding the Alliance means greater protection for the Night elves since it’s way riskier to start going off on your own when you are already so depleted and facing a multinational genocidal organization.

Apparently it doesn’t matter as the Alliance succeeds without that much support from the NIght Elves in their raid on Zandalar.

made me chuckle at multinational genocidal organization.

Yeah but Tyrande didn’t know that when she left for Darkshore since that was before the troll raid. It’s a complete 180 in her character and it’s gonna make her look bad in the end if they keep going with this Alliance division plot line.

Most likely right, which is another fear Night Elf fans have. It’s the monkey paw meme for them it seems.

Maybe b/c most of her people got roasted in Teldrassil, and she lost her temple and home.

I don’t see where the confusion is.

Elegy had Tyrande walking in on Anduin and Genn talking about helping the Night Elves reclaim their land, and it warming her heart.

8.1 has Anduin reneging on his side of that when the time comes, and Tyrande justifiably upset about it.

She isnt turning her back on unity lol the nelves still help in the raid, she just wants her home now, the drama isnt even that bad, they just disagree on the timing, anduin even sends the hero to help them.

It’s dividing Alliance forces, not the Alliance. That isn’t to say there isn’t friction, though.

What friction, everything went according to plan maybe if something failed lol

Night Elves have sacrificed so much for the Alliance. It’s about time our leaders put Night Elves first again

Friction between Tyrande and Anduin, even Greymane.

Tyrande is putting Night Elf interests above Alliance interests in her decision to retake Darkshore and not join the Alliance raid on the Zandalari. And it looks like the Alliance is putting its interests in Dazar’alor above helping the Night Elves.

Respectfully, the destruction of the Golden Fleet and the destruction of Dazar’alor’s ability to project power is a massive strategic boon that makes the Darkshore warfront go from impossibly hard to sustain to merely difficult. Without the ability of Horde to destroy supply convoys as easy, the ability to actually get material to Darkshore actually can happen.

Something Tyrande knows as Nelfs are helping in the raid too

As a longer term goal than the reclamation of Darkshore, Ashenvale, and the remains of Teldrassil. But in the short term, they are looking to the War in general, not the Night Elves in particular.

As I’ve said before in other threads, I understand that decision and don’t necessarily disagree with it. But from Tyrande’s perspective - or maybe just the perspective of Maiev and the Night Elf playerbase - it certainly seems as though the Alliance is a fair-weather friend.

It honestly depends on how much logistics matter, which is a problem given the…inconsistencies in WoW re:logistics. If we accept that logistical issues matter, then rushing to Darkshore without having dealt with the Golden Fleet could have proven a disastrous endeavor. If they don’t, for whatever reason Blizzard decides, then the move is wise. Simple as that really.

And the Alliance hasn’t? Need I remind you Theramore is now a smoldering ruin because Garrosh wanted it taken out first so he could focus on Teldrassil after!

Hell, Stormwind and the rest of the Eastern Kingdoms could have let the night elves fall and probably be all the better for it. They wouldn’t have to keep sending forces to keep night elven land.

I have to be honest, even as a Night Elf player, I never understood why so many Night Elf fans dislike being part of the Alliance. I mean, the Night Elves, as a race, would be absolutely 100% screwed right now if they were not a part of the Alliance. They would have no where to live, and no hope of reclaiming their homeland. We get the support of a multinational military superpower during our wars with the Horde, and during peace time we are largely left alone to handle our own affairs. Seems like a good deal to me.

As to the topic, I actually sort of agree with OP. While Blizzard has a habit of allowing stupid things to happen because they feel cool, it is absolutely insane to try to invade Darkshore right now, from any objective view point. We have no supply lines, no easy way to reinforce the front, and we are fighting within spitting distance of the Horde’s center of power. Like Saiphas said, we really lucked out that the Siege of Zuldazar turned out to be an Alliance win without Tyrande’s support, otherwise horde naval supremacy would have doomed Tyrande’s mission before it even got off the ground. I understand that Teldrassil was an incredibly traumatic moment for the Night Elves, but we need to be smart about this. The reclamation of Darkshore and Ashenvale should have come after the Horde’s navy was crippled, allowing us to supply and sustain our offensive. It may still work out in our favor, but that be do to luck, and Blizzard’s poor writing, not because Tyrande made the right decision.

Tyrande does send some support, the horde fight sentinels in the raid.
