TWW SPOILERS Thread

It’s…whatever. I’m not feeling any more engaged than I have been for the past few expansions. I’m in a weird space in that I pretty much actively skipped Dragonflight all together, but I’m not actively loathing the process of doing dailies like I was when I was given Shadowlands for free. Battle for Azeroth I have no strong memories of one way or another. Legion’s kind of the same way.

The last time I truly enjoyed playing WoW was during Mists of Pandaria, and TWW is not invoking that kind of memory thus far. It’s…fine. If it’s not making me super excited, it’s also not actively declining.

Just hit 80 on my main and don’t even want to bother finishing the story, let alone all the rep slogs. Will probably just go farm transmogs and pets and mounts or something for a bit, then unsubscribe until next expac.

My personal list: OG Vanilla, Legion, TBC, WOTLK >>>> Cata I guess >>>>BFA=DF=TWW= SL

I really do not enjoy the modern WoW era very much I guess. It’s all so forgettable and I have to keep reminding myself why my shadow priest main would ever ever ever GAF or bother doing things like helping Kobolds or babysitting whelplings.

I just miss being a straight up murder hobo. Give me a list of what needs killed and let me go do it vs forcing me through some awful story that an 8th grader with a fanfic habit could have told better.

Didn’t bother with MOP or WOD as I don’t care about pandas and I was busy IRL during WOD so can’t rank them.

Personally I’m having the most fun I’ve had in quite a while.

The story feels a bit more high stakes than Dragonflight, and it’s nice to see some of the old heroes again. In particular during the Campaign, it was good to see the Alliance and the Horde become somewhat relevant again. After Shadowlands and Dragonflight, it kind of felt like the factions were forgotten altogether, so it’s nice to see them getting repped there. Moreso than the previous two, it feels like my character should be there and is relevant to the story, not an accessory helping the dragons or the covenants, I suppose. I also like the feel of it - it really does feel like a direct continuation of the “void” side of BFA’s story, and I’m absolutely loving that personally.

I loved each of the zones! In order of favourite to least favourite I’d say Hallowfall, Azj-Kahet, Isle of Dorn and Ringing Deeps, but there genuinely has not been a zone I’ve disliked in this expansion, so I’m happy.

I did some normal raiding last night, and the raid is fun with cool mechanics. So far I’m enjoying the dungeons too (except maybe the Dawnbreaker). Delves are somewhere between Pandaria Scenarios and Island Expeditions, and I feel similarly about them to how I felt about their predecessors. I don’t really care but they’re fine, and the mount customisation makes it worth doing if nothing else. So overall having great fun in gameplay!

Honestly, best expansion I’ve played since BFA. I’m absolutely loving it! If SL was 2/10, Dragonflight about 6/10, this one’s already a solid 8 or 9.

I’m fine with it.

I like how the hero talents work for Evoker, which is my PvE main. The dungeon pool is pretty good for season one, the raid is cool (despite a bit of an eyebrow raise with recycled mechanics – always a thing but feels more pronounced this time around for some reason).

Delves are fun. I do find it funny how something added for solo play becomes “we need to do this at max difficulty 4 times per day” for raiders.

I really dig the city. Valdrakken was cool after the horrible design of Oribos. I thought I’d miss it but I really like the dark alley and how you can fly down to the other zones FROM the city itself.

The subject matter is kinda whatever to me. I think I’d be more interested if I didn’t know Midnight was next.

I like my Darkfallen Velf as a dark ranger marksmanship hunter in pvp but I still feel forcing some of these aesthetics/lore-vibes onto the hero talents was a mistake. That said, we’ve seen them swap aesthetic/lore stuff with the covenant talents that made it to class trees, so maybe they’ll change the approach in Midnight or TLT.

Where it ranks, I’m a bit confused by, like I can’t place it well yet. But I’d probably say my list goes something like this:

  1. Vanilla and Wrath
  2. TBC
  3. MOP and Legion
  4. Dragonflight and TWW
  5. Cata
  6. BFA and WoD
  7. SL

I find TWW okay. Just okay.

I’m a bit surprised, because I do like WoW’s dwarves, so I thought I’d be enjoying this more. Dagran is a treat, Moira has been everything I wanted her to be… but now the few minutes of that is over, and I find I don’t care about the earthen or the Arathi.

I should have learned from Malfurion’s return in Cata that meeting one’s heroes always falls flat - I loved the character of Alleria but find her more grating each time she shows up in the story. At least after going through all that, she’s mellowed out to the point where I consider her neutral again instead of an annoyance. I’m really hoping there will be some future stories of her and Turalyon doing stuff together, because I’m bored to death with the overly-repeated story beat of her pushing him and everyone else (except for Anduin, because everyone loves Anduin) away - the in-game cutscenes just aren’t long enough to show the full circumstances, nor emotionally deep enough to handle the characters’ headspace, for those moments to feel anything but contrived.

Falstad and Thrall training the new stormriders was also quite fun, and I like the Alliance and Horde fleets. I’d like more time with them, though - their relevance is over so quickly that it’s hard to remember they exist.

The main thing I love to see in WoW’s story is the progression of the main factions - how each expac’s story affects them and how they respond to it. It’s why I was glued to BfA even if I absolutely hated the direction the factions were going in it. And I feel that TWW gives me too little to chew on. Dalaran is destroyed! The factions’ fleets are assembled, their might brought to bear! …aaaaaaand the ongoing effects are so mild that I regularly forget that happened.

Hopefully there is plenty of old Azeroth interactions upcoming in the next patches of the campaign, but I don’t feel that the stage has been set for that. The NPC dialogues in Hallowfall were cool, the Dalarani zone treasures and one warden hunting escaped prisoners was nice, but I want whole Dalarani camps as questing hubs, Bilgewater wildcat miners setting up shop instead of just the Venture Company, and so on. Give me more Westfall Brigade-style hubs, full of old characters to recognize and who also conveniently exemplify our factions’ interests in the new expac zones/story.

I know MMOs aren’t good formats to tell conventional stories, but I feel like there’s a lot of easy targets that were missed, like the above-mentioned questing hubs made up of familiar factions/characters. Or: Why not have the skyriding WQs be given by Thrall/Kurdan as stormrider training circuits, with the gold/silver/bronze outcomes styled as beating various stormrider recruits’ best times and teaching them something?

Eh. I think I had more fun writing this review and coming up with examples than I did when experiencing the TWW story. Still, I don’t feel like the existing mediocre story has permanently wrecked anything (unlike BfA and SL stories), so I’m just bored instead of angry. Yay?

I’ve done nothing but flip T2 bismuth into T3 to sell at ludicrous prices.

Same, I haven’t bothered with crafting at all.

SELL SELL SELL

I’m pretty sure I’m the reason why the price of T3 has tanked so much and why T2 rose like 10G.
BUY LOW SELL HIGH

Soon I’ll probably shift to Aqirite.

I should rank it too, good idea. So far, my expansion ranking would be:

MoP > BfA > Legion > TWW > Cata > WotLK > DF > WoD > BC > Vanilla > SL

TWW may overtake Legion or even BFA if it stays strong, in my book.

TBC > Wrath > DF > TWW (TBD) > Vanilla > the other ones

I would put Mop in the list but tbh at the time there was some things I didn’t like. I still don’t like dailies and Mop felt like daily hell. Then campaign stuff locked behind a rep grind and I also really hate rep grinds, so all of that was what made me unsub. I was also not having a good time finding RP but I made the mistake being on MG so it was hard to find people playing at my time because the culture waaaaaay too serious about RP for me.

I’m taking it easy with TWW, delves are fun and RP is starting out with a bang. Got some ideas for Juspion, just hope I can get wfh days on RP nights so I can attend. I remade my kit so now I’m a mech pilot and can make all the sentai and mecha anime references and no one can stop me.

This is the way. I’m making stupid amounts of money this expac and I’m not even particularly trying that hard.

If I’m ranking it so far:
Wrath
DF/MOP
BFA
Legion
TWW
TBC
WOD
Cata
Anything else, at all.
SL

I put it in the middle of the list, because it feels kind of mid, tbh.

I am enjoying it and playing more than I have daily in years, but I would also say it feels odd at times? It feels jumbled and not coherent. I’m not really sure what’s going on. I’m not really sure at times what Blizzard thinks I should be doing.

So, I’m playing A LOT but just the things that I’m choosing to do.

I’d say my biggest complaint at the moment is that two big features - World Souls and Delves are not holding my interest, at all. I am severely disappointed in delves. I’m unsure if I expected too much from them and they didn’t deliver or I just misunderstood what they were supposed to be.

People ranking BFA and DF so high are literally insane :expressionless: those were AWFUL.

If I had to rank the WoW experience…

  1. Wrath
  2. Mists of Pandaria
  3. Vanilla
  4. Warlords of Draenor
  5. The Burning Crusade
  6. Cataclysm
  7. Battle for Azeroth
  8. Legion
  9. Cataclysm “Vanilla”
  10. Shadowlands

Not ranking Dragonflight because I’ve only done the Emerald Dream stuff and The War Within is early enough that I can’t really slot it appropriately.

We doing this then?

I’m not including The War Within because it is still early days and the expansion has only just taken off

Ranking by Story Cohesiveness/Sanity of the Writers

  1. Vanilla
  2. Wrath of the Lich King
  3. Mists of Pandaria
  4. Legion
  5. Cataclysm
  6. Warlords of Draenor
  7. Burning Crusade
  8. Dragonflight
  9. Battle for Azeroth
  10. Shadowblands

By the expansions I preferred for every other reason? ((Mechanics, cool features, QoL improvements, etc etc))

  1. Vanilla
  2. Warlords of Draenor
  3. Wrath
  4. Mists
  5. Dragonflight
  6. Legion
  7. The Burning Crusade
  8. Cataclysm
  9. Battle for Azeroth
  10. Shadowflan

Ok, I have some time for a few minutes. My list (subject to change):

Lich King (and Blizz will never put out an expac that will drop this out of my top spot)

Then pretty much a tie between other expacs I really liked and Vanilla:
Pandaria
Legion
BFA
Vanilla

Then moving on to “liked these well enough” but not in the favorite category:
Dragonflight
WoD
Burning Crusade

And in the “please don’t ever do this again” category:
Cata
Shadowlands

I liked DF pretty well, but I don’t have any nostalgia for it. I disliked Cata and hated most of SL.

Don’t ever do it again category for me is:

SL, DF, TWW so far, BFA, and what little I played of MOP.

i completely forgot about legion and bfa when my sleepy brain wrote mine last night lmao, which idk if its just i was tired or a reflection of the expansions (I put Bfa low)

anyway im kinda looking at my as a mix of - did i have fun vs game design stuff etc

TBC > Wrath > DF > Legion > TWW (TBD) > WoD > Vanilla > BFA the other ones

TBC/Wrath was just my peak WoW time. Lots of raiding and playing with folks every dang night.

DF because I had a great time just exploring zones, random achievements and had more than enough to do I was overwhelmed by it.

Legion, WoD and even BFA had a lot of good RP.

  • BFA I did a lot of world PVP when I was still maining Horde and had a lot of funny memories getting killed by Moon Guard raids lol. Also good RP with Picks and Pints.
  • WoD and Legion I also had a bit of world PVP defending Brill/Crossroads and finding plenty of RP during the content drought and expansion lull.

Vanilla will always be in the list because without vanilla I wouldn’t be playing this game. I didn’t RP in vanilla but was still very pulled into the world. I think that’s what I like about DF is that there is a lot to find exploring and poking around that sorta hits that Vanilla nostalgia.
