TWW Prepatch - WoW Crashes Many Times

Update: I solved this problem (at least for the past 30 minutes of the fix, I faced no crashes). I identified the problem as high-end Intel i9-14900KF issue. I downloaded Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. I then adjusted the following settings:

  • Performance Core Ratio: 52x down from 57x
  • Processor Core IccMax: 307.00 A. You can find this setting from advanced view

Kudos to https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/1axepvu/optimizing_stability_for_intel_13900k_and_14900k/

===========================================================================
I am facing exactly the same issue shared here: https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/game-crashes-when-opening-items-purchased-from-ah/524846 except it happens to me sporadically and it happens independently of what I am doing. Sometimes, it crashes when I enter a portal, enter a dungeon, inspect a character, open my bags, or even just while walking around.

I’m getting the below message:

Program:C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft_retail_\Wow.exe

Exception: ACCESS_VIOLATION - The instruction at “0x00007ff7b32c72bf” referenced memory at “0x0000000000000000a”.

The memory could no be “read”.
ProcessID: 9672
ThreadID: 18832

Press OK to terminate the application.

I thought it could be an addons conflict, so I tried the following to no avail:

  • Delete all addons, and Curseforge addon manager.
  • Delete WTF, Cache, and Interface
  • Fresh reinstall without any addons

But it kept crashing every single time. And it’s not like a once in a blue moon event. It happens very frequently.

This is a report ID from one of the many crashes: E73DAA69-0BF3-48AA-A0C2-4C1BD4310797

I opened an in-game ticket, but the customer service suggested I reset my interface, which is something I have already tried, and they resolved my ticket without waiting for my feedback.

Is anyone else facing the same issue? Could it be a hardware issue? It’s happening on my Alienware GTX 4090 Desktop.

I’m having a similar issue referencing memory whenever I talk to a vendor and their item window pops up. Game just crashes.

The instruction at “0x00007ff7837272bf” referenced memory at “0x0000000000000000a”

Good news intel is working on a fix

They state it should be fixed by September.

From administrative command prompt:

dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth && sfc /scannow && chkdsk c: /f /r

This will prompt you for y/n. If you press y and hit enter, it will do a full scan of C; upon reboot that cannot be interrupted or you will hose the install. However the check can fix file system problems. On ssd/nvme could take 30 minutes. On HDD could take multiple hours.

Thanks. Tried this earlier, but it also didn’t work for me.

Same, every time I load in an arena or log on or even in a bg it freezes for a min. I’ve never had this issue until pre patch arrived now its beyond frustrating. I’ve done all I can do w/ the addons even deleted all of them and re installed the game entirely. Nothing worked.

The error itself mentions ram. Did you run a full memtest86?

Same error encountered. First it was when I was doing things around pet battles / battle pets and then now when I was opening / starting quests it also does the same error. Wow crashed so many times already in a span of 1 hour that I would be suspending myself from playing until hopefully this gets resolved soon.

Same problem

Bumping for attention. Crashes are very, very frequent. Can’t walk across Valdrakken, loot dungeon bosses, zone in and out of pre-patch events, etc. Same error as OP, but adjusting Intel settings and updating drivers had no effect.

Edit: Crashes stopped after disabling WeakAuras

Still working with only WA disabled only?

I think so, it’s at least less frequent.

Same problem here, did not start until yesterday’s patch. Doesn’t even require me to do anything other than fly around or zone into an instance, most commonly.

Did some more testing. Some of my WeakAura packs seem to have been unstable, not the addon itself. I deleted it and its customizations, reinstalled it and am now using some of Quazii’s WA packs and it seems stable for now. I’ll try stay logged in and see if an error pops up again.

Turn off ‘optional GPU features’ and ‘advanced work submit’ in compatibility settings

Disabling weakauras did not fix mine.

I have an AMD Ryzen processor
I have tried the repair tool
I have tried disabling all add-ons
I have tried renaming my saved variables folder for the character with the issue

No luck.

That sucks, but it does make sense. I’m no expert but it seems like the issue is not with WoW, or with addons, but with some rare interaction with certain hardware. Wish I had a solution for you.

Did u try the optional GPU features and advanced work submit settings?
