Volcanic surge pvp talent just got even more interesting to me. The scary cast time reduction for LB and CL combined looks like some crazy fast casts just not instant. I’m using it now and think it will be even more fun.
Combination of talents give 20% crit for LB and CL right off the bat plus stats. I know it’s early but combo of LB, LvB, and pets…
If the changes are up before my shift this afternoon I’ll be testing it. I currently play volcanic surge in pvp and am a bit worried for it with overloads doing 25% dmg now.
I thought about that too but if mastery reads right that it increases our damage too, I wonder if that would also flow to overload damage or if it’s just their way to move some of our damage out of RNG overloads and into our normal damage rotation.
I’d like to hear your thoughts on it if you the chance today.
The mastery change is HUGE and I don’t see much chat about it. It also kills all the overload talents. The damage isn’t an issue, they will just tune it, but now what is the point of overload if the damage of overloads is so low??!!
What does this do to stormkeeper?! Power surge?! Etc.
Seems bad.
But yes I would be fine playing a (hard hitting!) lightning build in PvP with 0.5 sec cast times on LB. With precog melee would have to be pretty confident to even try and kick that.
It’s still not up, but really all depends on how the damage % is.
If the mastery increases damage and overload chance by the current mastery % it’ll be a tiny bit stronger (but weaker for big burst). If the damage increase is half the % of mastery then it’s a pretty big nerf.
I didn’t even realize they changed mastery … going from 85% down to 25% overload damage … I sure hope that they added that 60% back into straight damage
I ended up trying it out after work. Before the change I had 41% mastery. After the change it shows 16.8% more dmg and 56% chance to overload and the overloads do 35% dmg with talents vs 100%.
So now, when casting a spell with overload, lets suppose 100 dmg, it used to be 100 + 100 when overloading and now it’s 116 + 58.1 = 175.1.
I tried 2 different solo shuffle and to be honest, there were a lot of shaman tonight which means lots of grounding totems. The burst is still there which is good though. I made a video to show it if you are interested. Overall, it wasn’t too bad - but I’ll try again tomorrow in hopes it isn’t so laggy and… I don’t have to deal with 2-3 people dropping grounding totem.
Also, some talents are bugged and not working and ancestral swiftness is no longer summoning an ancestor when using farseer. On top of that, a lot of the talents that were 2 point talents that are now 1 point talents are only giving what the old 1 point talent would give and not updated.
I didn’t try it last night. It’s not a build that really interests me for pvp and that’s mainly what I play now. I did try it last week and the 400 maelstrom requirement for tempest is a lot (especially now after the maelstrom nerfs). But I can mess around with it for a bit today.
Sounds good. If I’m playing Volcanic Surge in PVP I think I want to lean into Lightning and use lava burst like earth shock where it buffs my LBs.
With the quick lighting casts and AOE potential it feels more appealing. I’m also thinking stormbringer might also make crit a new main stat for Shaman even in pvp.
