I would never call Brewmaster “Clunky”. Bloated, for sure but clunky just doesnt really describe it. Very fluid abilities, but the truth is, they really need to start combining ability effects. Takes us like 10 GCDs to do something a Warrior can in like 5. Each of our abilities covers one thing, and thats it. Why do we have Rushing Jade Wind AND Breath of Fire? Why cant keg smash apply a fire dot plus the damage reduction? Push the Advantage is cool, but it doesnt fix the issue. We just have too many abilities that do ONE thing. Other classes have abilities that do several. They need to start combining abilities and getting rid of some or placing some on option nodes.
Rushing Jade Wind, Breath of Fire, Bonedust Brew, Purifying Brew, and Exploding Keg all come to mind as things that may need to be trimmed. But they need to be careful, and not ruin the feel of the spec. The spec is meant to be fast paced, with a good amount of difficulty. I think trimming Breath of Fire and just adding it to Keg Smash would be the best one. Give Keg Smash a buff, and add the BoF effect and damage to it.
Totally agree and ya clunky wasnt the right word. The main rotation is pretty smooth and i love it. I guess i mean clunky in “ohh crap” or “big dps time” moments where u have 4 dps cooldowns and 6 defensives to choose from each with only one thing like u mentioned.
Combining bonedust brew and exploding keg and rushing jade wind with breath of fire would be amazing
I agree with everything Blakimus said. Brewmaster needs to reduce the huge bloating of buttons, it is far beyond complex, for situations where quick actions are necessary, with more than one effect the brewmaster is far behind.
Given that they started combining buttons for Chi Wave and WW Expel Harm, I suspect Brewmaster will have buttons combined there as well.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Bonedust Brew became 100% passive with an effect like what Bountiful Brew does, and Rushing Jade Wind become passively activated a la Strike of the Windlord for WW. (maybe passive activate while Celestial Brew is activated)
Yeah we do have button bloat to a degree, but that’s not the core of the problem imo. The core of button bloat stems from most if not all our skills are too monotonous and lack additional interaction.
Take a basic movement skill and compair it to other tanks; I know apples and oranges but bare with me for a sec.
We have roll; which only moves us in a given direaction for a set distance, come TWW we can spec it so it removes snares every 30 sec and/or spec’ed so that we lunge the nearest target, which with blizzards track record would likely put us in the centre of the target (not good).
While DH have ape jump; which can move their character anywhere within a set distance, also deal AoE damage, while being able to be spec’ed into having a movement speed boost after use.
And Warriors have charge; a targeted movement; which stuns the target for 1 sec, deals ST damage, and generates resources.
Such lists can go on and on, everything we can do other tanks can do it better, more efficiently, in less GCDs, and most importantly, they don’t have to spec for it.
This imo, is the source of our button bloat, unless they seriously merge close to a third of our skills to have more than one or two interactions the root of the problem will always persist.
Tanks in general have higher APM, but Brew is lower than other tanks since they only have one off-GCD ability that can’t be spammed. (Purifying Brew)
My hands hurt after playing Prot Pal (SotR off-GCD) and Guardian Druid (Ironfur off-GCD) but they’re fine on while playing Brew.
Not too many maintenance actions but then you can do a good iron fur stack pre-emptively and then use frenzied regeneration for emergency healing
Brew is just A LOT Of maintenance abilities (breath of fire and blackout kick + blackout combo into keg smash and that resets Breath of Fire with talents… and that’s just dps rotation not including defensives….)
And then if you take Rushing Jade Wind instead of special delivery… sheesh.
Would really like to see the ability frequency turned down and have more impactful button presses
I feel like brew should get an rework as button bloat and overall APM. Its ALOT of work we have to do for the same outcome for other tanks having easier time. I know specs need to be different in multiple reasons. Its so noticeable that BM have to do an insane amount of work for a basic feeling to be an tank. I know their defensive come form stagger and is passive but have to press 25+ buttons in combat (plus special weapons and potions, thrinkets). Now having to maintain some spells is so much to think about.
It needs a heavy rework as they want it to be on the same level as APM and “work” like as the other tanks. They lose the “need” to reduce damage because the Red stagger Gameplay is basic on the healer so you do more damage. Personally i never like that gameplay and have low or none power on healing or wait for an brew. Than go red again instantly to do more damage.
Nothing about the problem as scaling though the Xpack or with gear. Nor the idea of our mastery is bad design and scales awful
They’ve already reduced bloating by allowing abilities like Dampen Harm, Diffuse Magic, and Tiger Palm to be altered to passive nodes or talents. And in the next expansion, it’s the same with Chi Wave.
DH,DM, The passives are worse when you can use it on the right moment. Yu’lon is okay but dance is awful.
The idea on use button s are always better so they haven’t fix it. and chi wave as an passive is better but they was small on your overall damage so just don’t use it
having 25+ buttons you need to use at your best doesn’t feel good at all high APM
How about rushing jade wind as a permanent aura? I really like using Breath of Fire. I am not an expert tank, I enjoy brewmaster open world, pvp and leveling etc I am still holding out hope we dont lose essence font. Love that ability also.
THe talent that replaces Tiger Palm with it being passive does help ease the bloat (think it’s called Press the Advantage). Something like that i wish were higher in the tree ( lower levels could get it sooner) as i think that’s something that would help those that like passives more than actives for skills/cd’s.
Some like complexity and the rewards it brings for it mastery/perfection of it. Some, like myself, prefer passives that are always there, perhaps eaker, but less worry on button management and more focus on what is actually going on in a fight.
Choice should always be offered so… to that end i’m all for giving people more options/choices to shrink or expands their skills to fit what works for them.
I kinda always thought Rushing Jade Wind, when for Tanking or DPS, should just be the upgraded version of Spinning Crane Kick. So rather than have 2 buttons it just merges them and makes it a better ability.
