So my wife has played in the past but hasn’t really gotten too far and wants to play again in the new expansion. I was thinking of just creating a new WoW account for her on my Bnet account because I heard that you can share some stuff. So my question is for those who have done this before, what are the benefits and are there any down sides? I believe a friend said that they share the mounts across both accounts? Do you share transmogs or anything else important? Are there any issues? Thanks for any information yall can provide based off your knowledge or experiences with it.
account sharing. will make collecting everything easier and faster.
account sharing. goes against tos.
It’s against the rules.
Nope. Against TOS.
She will need her own Bnet account - email, phone number etc.
Isn’t that just for specific wow accounts, and not for overarching bnet accounts? Like I thought the whole idea of multiple accounts under one bnet was for things like parents having one for their kid to play, while still have all the control.
No. A Bnet account is per person. You cannot share accounts within a single Bnet, unless it is a Parent/Child.
Right you are.
Correct. That said, now that you can no longer move a WoW account from one battle.net to another (nor can you transfer characters between battle.net accounts), it’s highly recommended that if you want to setup an account for a child, it should be under a new battle.net account and not under a parent/guardian’s account.
It can be in the parent’s name (which is easier to change once the minor is old enough), but it should be a completely separate account, unless they’re looking forward to starting completely over later on.
Even then you shouldn’t as you can’t transfer a license to another account anymore, and before that they lost any mounts pets and transmogs they collected as those are tied to an account.
A Battlenet Account is the entity that is registered to YOU and can only be accessed by you (with the exception of one minor child but that is not recommended).
Under your Bnet account you can have up to 8 WoW licenses. Those licenses share mounts, pets, heirlooms, transmogs, toys, etc.
You should never be sharing that with an adult ever, and they don’t even recommend doing so witch a child anymore.
Yep!
For anyone wanting to know, a Child below 13 is not allowed to play at all, even on a parent’s license. A child 13 and up should have the Battlenet account set up in their name, with a new WoW license, with the Parental Controls set up by the parent. When the child turns 18 the parent can remove the parental controls and the child keeps all their chars, pets, mounts, etc.
This allows the parent to control play time, get detailed play reports, control chat access, control in-game purchase options, etc. It also means the child does not share the Battlenet friends chat list with the parent. Parent and child can also play together without any limitations. This is especially important with Warbands.
I understand this, and I didn’t go deeper into information because OP specifically said:
.
But you can, and that was my point about the TOS that OP was talking about breaking.
