WoW as it currently exists does not benefit from having two factions anymore. I am thankful that they have gradually loosened the boundaries between them. Cross Faction grouping, and in 10.1 Cross Faction Guilds.
With these steps taken, I think it is clear that working toward eliminating the faction barrier is where the future of WoW is headed and I couldnt be happier. If only it could come sooner than later.
As it stands right now, I just dont see what value keeping divided factions in the game will hold.
Lore and Storytelling? The two factions work together more often than they fight each other.
PvP? Arenas and battlegrounds would just work the same. Two groups fighting against each other.
World PvP? As it sits servers are just divided. They are either horde or alliance. Warmode would just function as a free for all. Even though Warmode is used very little from my experiences.
I just see it as a way to help consolidate the population and allow people more choice in how they play the game. Basically make races a cosmetic choice (With some racials) and letting people just play what they want with who they want.
I like having the two factions honestly. I just wish there was a bit more nuance instead of “hurr let’s make the factions go at war just because”. Stop that, it’s boring. More options would be neat too.
Any alliance races choosing to go to the horde or vice versa, neutral characters or the original faction races (human in alliance, orc in horde etc.)
It’s not all black or white. Some people still like the factions and some people just want them gone. There’s surely a middle ground to be found. Blizzard is already moving in the right direction with cross-faction guild and grouping.
I can’t wait to party in stormwind on all my vulpera, the fact that orgrimmar still looks like a hot topic store vomited all it’s spikes… AFTER GARROSH HAS BEEN DEAD FOR A DECADE makes no sense and it’s uglier than hell compared to old org…
We even got an achievement for ending the war “veteran of the 4th war” so yeah blizz needs to remove all faction barriers outside pvp battlegrounds already. War is over, time to party together!
Sure, lets get rid of one of WoW’s oldest mainstays since the RTS games because is such an inconvenience for you. Let’s just forget all the recent bad blood and hold hands in a future of peace and harmony. It’ll be the same story over and over, bringing everyone together. No more drama. No more intrigue.
Sure but this isn’t true for the average azerothian, there is currently a big disconnect from the people of azeroth and the heroes themselves. I think it would be beneficial to address that since the player character is technically a “main character” now.
Easily flipped.
Sure, lets hold on to an outdated way to divide the player base, because it has been that way for a long time. Lets allow players to play whatever race they want, and be able to play with their friends.
Lets take the story into a time of uneasy peace. Where groups such as the Scarlet Crusade, Delfias Brotherhood can find new recruits unhappy with the peace. Groups working to undermine the peace. Warhawks like Genn and Turalyon constantly pushing back. Tyrande still holding a grudge. Anduin wandering about in the Maw with Sylvanas, a slap in the face to Tyrande.
An uneasy peace is much more interesting than what we have now. And the stories that can be told using that tension and environment can be great.
Or, we could hold onto your nostalgia for a game and system that has long ran it course. And go through the cycle of, Alliance vs Horde. Big Enemy Appears. Alliance and Horde are too weak on their own to defeat it. Alliance and Horde come together to Defeat the Enemy. Alliance and Horde are friends… New reason for Alliance vs Horde.
