Yeah I never understood why people think this either, what I say now is important now than whatever I said in the past but I guess when people lose arguments they try to grasp at anything they can.

I think you underestimate the appetite for the MMO genre for truly new players. “The kids” don’t come to games like this one first anymore. We’re old now.
I would agree with you had the pandemic occurred in 2010, or maybe even 2012. However, I think there are simply too many ways for all sorts of people to interact online.
This game hit its high-water mark at a time before a lot of people thought of watching their television shows and movies on a computing device via the internet.
The subs won’t ever come within spitting distance of that 12m player mark ever again. Pandemic or not. There’s too much else to do and the generation that loved MMOs best has begun aging out of the focus of gaming companies.
