“Sargeras was the Burning Legion’s creator and its original leader. However, there have been no reported sightings of the titan since the death of the human wizard Medivh, who was possessed by Sargeras’ spirit at the time. In Sargeras’ absence, the demon lord Kil’jaeden assumed leadership of the Legion.”
“To carry out his plan, he created the Legion, whose ranks he bolstered by creating demons: immortal creatures whose hunger, power, and malice made them perfect killing machines.”
“Once a noble warrior for order and peace, Sargeras came to believe that there was a fundamental flaw in the universe, a flaw that made his primary purpose an impossible goal. He decided that the other titans were deeply misguided in trying to establish order throughout creation. Under the circumstances, the struggle was futile. The universe had to be destroyed utterly and remade without the underlying defect. Only then could true order be achieved. Thus, Sargeras conceived of a sweeping campaign to bring about the end of all things: the Burning Crusade.”
That 1% figure from a deleted page you can only access via the wayback machine is no longer relevant.
Using real world metrics and logic, 90% of a species being wiped out only in their homeland would mean there are less survivors of that genocide than there are those outside that region.
Claiming 90% of an entire species got wiped out and 9% of that species chose to identify as blood elves puts blood elves outnumbering high elves by a ton.
Since that includes high elves that weren’t in Silvermoon during the attack like Kael’thas, he came back and then decided to rename themselves blood elves. Any high elf that felt the same even living away from the capital could choose to identify as blood elves. It was a political change of name.
Except that’s not true, the Blood Elves were named such by those who followed Kael, and began using Fel Magic, thus the green eyes. Those who did not use Fel Magic are High Elves.
It wasn’t just political- unless you count drinking the koolaid a “political move”.
Kael’thas turned to fel magic to help his people with magic addiction. But obviously the high elves had the same affliction and managed to deal with it… So you could argue that some blood elves too if they had enough magical trinkets and didn’t turn to fel magic. Especially a rich caste.
Any high elf is welcomed to go in Silvermoon, only void elves are exiled due to them being dangerous to the sunwell.
Any high elf can choose to be a blood elf since it’s a political name and loyalty with the horde goes along with that.
Those that stayed allianced mostly had family ties with humans and interbred. Elisande even mocks them for that and asks why they even still call themselves high elves.
Bereft of their Sunwell, the blood elves were forced to deal with their addiction differently. Through Illidan Stormrage (who maintained that magical addiction cannot be conquered by any means, only sated), Prince Kael’thas acquired the teachings of stripping arcane magic from other sources, be it mana-bearing items or creatures. This process was dubbed the " [Mana Tap]," and became an important and increasingly essential part of the elves’ lives. Kael instructed Rommath to spread these teachings back home in Quel’Thalas, as a way to sate—but not cure—the elves’ addiction to magic. The knowledge was passed down until all blood elves had learned the techniques necessary to draw arcane energies from crystals, artifacts, creatures, or even mortals who commanded such power.[4] This technique was a cause of contention: some deemed it as immoral, while others callously overused it and were physically warped into what became known as the Wretched.
Ultimately, the Sunwell was restored, now a mixture of both arcane and holy magic. With this inspiring turn of events, the elven addiction has - for the most part - begun to come back under control, as it was before the well’s loss. With Regent Lord Lor’themar Theron’s encouragement, the ability to sate their addiction conveniently via the Sunwell, and the plight of the Reliquary to free the elves of what remains of their addiction for good, the blood elves are on a far more efficient (and less dangerous) path to be free of their bane. However, a few elves remain enthralled by their former methods of gaining power, and are not eager to give up on them.[5]
Blood elves used fel magic, absorbed it from magical trinkets or animals (like the BC trainder). They did not all use fel but they did have fel crystals that basically radiated fel energies that they would absorb naturally.
Although given this lore we see high elves go to Argus, a planet full of fel energies and not turn into blood elf fel eyes. Valeera stayed a high elf for example.
The sunwell got restored which was justification for holy and arcane eyes options as it effectively cleansed/nullified fel stuff. Which blizz said that lore justified the new eyes since BC. So they basically gave a lore update to the eyes expansions after when they started focusing on customization.
Blood Elves are High Elves and the customization fits BEs main theme as the playable High Elf race w the Kingdom, Capital City, Lore, culture, aesthetic, and restored Sunwell, whose heritage quest reinforces this as some parts of it you even play as a High Elf.
You have a secondary theme through player agency and RP tools. Not really the same thing and doesn’t really put you in a spot to feel that additions to BEs main theme should be stopped.
Other races on the verge of extinction: Orcs (Warcraft 3, from humans) Tauren (Warcraft 3 from centaurs) Island Trolls (Warcraft 3. can’t remember but Thrall had to save them.) Gnomes like you stated. Pretty much Draenei. Void Elves were a small squad. It’s warcraft. If you’ve got a goldmine and lumber you’ve got infinite numbers.
Mmm. You have a secondary theme through player agency and RP tools. Dark Ranger.
Also, apparently, High Elf. So two.
Blood Elves have got green eyes. They certainly don’t have purple eyes. They said the fel would wear off, but in game all we see is the Sunwell turning peoples eyes gold.
So you’re complaining about Void Elves getting something that YOU also got. Give dem’ eye colors back.
Or wait. Give Void Elves Gold and Green eyes? Lets make your statement true.
Actually we’ve had BE NPCs w the options for some time, but I agree it suggests High Elves returning home to fall under the Blood Elf banner and taking up the BE name.
And you’re prepared to give all non void customization back I take it?
