So all this recent news got me to thinking maybe I’m doing my add ons wrong. Currently I have all my add ons installed through Twitch. Should I be using CurseForge app instead? Or does it matter?
I don’t use any.
like a boss.
I just install them manually why use some third party?
“curseforge app” is the twitch app mod page.
it used to be its own thing way back before Twitch bought them, but its been a few years (like 5-6 at least i think?)
Not anymore. Apparently now I heard that Twitch sold the CurseForge app to Overwolf. I have no idea if there have been any changes to the actual app or not.
Twitch works just fine.
Oh Lordie, you again!!! Lol yup, twitch bought the curse app etc…
Twitch is safer. I never heard of Overwoof.
Yeah I’m bored at work. I have plenty of work to do, but you know, forum addiction.
I know people who have a metric crap ton of addons that would be so tedious and annoying to update.
I, on the other hand, have 6, so doing them manually isn’t an issue for me at all.
Okay, now I know where to find you. Stalker alert!!! jk jk jk Lmao!!!
When Overwolf takes it over, they claim they are going to use the code as provided by Twitch, then start tweaking it from there.
I’ve been using the Twitch version for a number of years now and it has worked fine.
They are one in the same at the moment, Cursed Forge is part of the Twitch app. They haven’t maintained their own updater for a couple of years now.
Yikes, sounds horrible lol.
They are actually the same Twitch took over Curse.
You can still down load addons from the Curse site but to do it via app it is the Twitch app.
This is what I do in my freetime. Shall we go back to the campfire and have lunch since its almost 4 pm and I haven’t ate today? Dinner instead?
When I run
/script count = GetNumAddOns(); print(count)
it says I have 229 addons, likely not accurate as it is probably counting modules but even if 1/4 are legit addons I wouldn’t want to manually check for updates on them all daily lol.
Better then using that Overwolf app that was using malware infested adds but hey if people wanna risk using 3rd party software owned by shady companies thats on them
As a notifier for anyone here, now would be a good time to replace unsupported addons and transition to others. As an example the altoholic dev has since quit WoW and does not maintain the addon anymore (or the datastores that support it). There is someone that has forked it (https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/altoholic-retail
).
Additionally ever since the start of BFA and the change to all maps working under UImapID, npcscan has not been updated. Not to mention the messup of curseforge incorrectly packaging the 7.3 version of the app, requiring to get parts from an older version. It would wise to move over to rarescanner or silverdragon (or another).
No reason to have out of date addons or ones that throw lua errors.
It might be a good time for me to clean out my addon folder. I’ve a few I don’t really use and the main ones have their own website anyway. I’m also looking at swapping to Minion as a downloader since I use that for ESO. Beyond Minion, there’s some discussion on WoW reddit about something called CurseBreaker, that takes some set up, but people seem to like as well.
