Twisting Corridors: The Soulforge, Floor 18 boss Observer Zelgar

This is my personal experience from the Twisting Corridors facing Floor 18 boss Observer Zelgar as of this morning.

ilvl: 209
Spec: BM (talented for M+/Raid)
Pet: Ferocity and Tenacity (alternatively)
Buffs: food, augment rune, Agil Flask, Shadowcore Oil
Anima Powers: 71, Various for dmg and defensive.
Soul Raiment’s Blessing: 107% to Str, Agil and Intellect

Upon entering TC, Floor 1-12 was pretty manageable for the most part. I didn’t start having issues until hitting Floors 13-16 mainly. Since I was going into The Soulforges around Floor 13, the mobs in this particular area are unforgiving with their abilities. Nevertheless despite dying a few times here and there, I’ve managed to punch my way through to Floor 18 to face Level 62 Elite, Observer Zelgar which has 3098k HP.

This is where it get’s interesting. I started of with Hunters Mark to inc dmg, Misdirect my pet for inc dmg, Intimidate the target for 100% inc damage, popped Primal Rage for hero, used Fleeting Frenzy Potion to inc dmg by 30% as long as you remain in combat, used Tar Trap w/ Flare for DoT and inc damage. Within the first few seconds, my pet got hit once to 50%, I then cast Mend Pet to heal (10 sec cool down) before the healing could take effect, my pet was hit again and died. My other pet continued to attack Observel Zelgar and quickly soon after died, as my other pet companion was attacking Zelgar, I stood to revive my pet which takes 4 seconds (was previously a 2 second cast time, but that got nerf’d for unknown reasons), I literally could not do anything but stand there for four seconds like a statue while being a punching bag. Soon after I was dead, I could not escape fast or long enough to revive my pet and get back into the fight.

When I died, I repaired, revived my pet, reset my buffs for another attempt. Everything else was on reset except my hero which was another 5 min (because I only lasted ~1-2min fighting Zelgar). So again, basically performed the same rotation, this time I called out my Tenacity (tank) pet. Again, basically the same “buff” rotation to inc damage for myself and my pet, and soon after once again, Zelgar chunked my tank pet and killed it before Mend Pet could take effect. The HP orbs that spawned helped little to escape, but same result, I have to stand for four seconds to revive my pet while I receive damage and can’t do absolutely nothing but die. I don’t understand how this is even do able when I can’t even get my pet revived fast enough no matter if I Aspect of the Cheetah or Disengage out of Zelgars immediate area, his spells and abilities just lay me to waste.

Again, I’ve managed to get up to Floor 18 with minimal issues, (but there are some), despite the difficulty, it’s mainly this particular boss I’m trying to solo and I feel like I’m hitting a brick wall, I just can’t punch through this boss no matter how much damage I throw at him, he just 2 shots my pet regardless. I’ve had five attempts so far, two more to go and I’m just not seeing any satisfactory results no matter if my BM rotation is 100% on point, all the damage and buffs I can muster, self healing or Anima healing assist, defensive assistance and healing my pets as much as I can, this boss is just over tuned to the max. Out of the five attempts so far, I’ve managed to get him down to ~65% HP which includes the time my pet was up.

Most recent death (6:32 am) was caused by his Focused Blast which dealt 46,119 dmg at a 1.2 second cast time and a melee hit for 32k damage while my pet was dead, I cannot escape whatsoever. Exhilarate was on CD ( I save my CD for when my pet died and used it) and my HP potion could not heal myself enough to absorb the chunky melee and Focused Blast damage.

  • Revive Pet: 4 second cast time, must be standing still, moving will cancel the cast.
  • Mend Pet: 10 sec CD (can only get one off before Zelgar kills my pet in 2 shots)
  • Exhilarate: 2 min CD (cannot depend on cooldown time to survive)
  • HP Pots: 5 min CD (cannot depend on cooldown time to survive)

As a BM hunter who just cleared the total floors (and 20 ilvls lower), I think your biggest problem was you were wwwwway short on animal.

I just finished it with 103. Cleared every mob and chest from every floor. Purchased as much as I could from the broker. No deaths from mobs, only when I misstepped into an insta death trap. Having the maw torg buffs help, for an orb for 5 cost from each broker along the way.

Does Torgast scale with ilvl? My end boss was 2800k-ish at ilvl 196

I had my one life left and the only time I lost lives was with the boss. It had an ability that needed to be interrupted or it could do 11k damage, but all I had to do that was my main interrupt on 15 sec CD and my stun.

I was spamming flash whenever I could and WoG. Killed it on last life. Boss could have killed me with one more hit and me him with one hit. I got lucky enough that my hit came first.

If it scales with ilvl it’s never going to become easier and some of those bosses aren’t friendly to all classes and specs at all.

I rarely skip mobs in Torghast especially the rare mobs. I have zero issues soloing any other layer in Torghast and I’ve been clearing Layer 8’s, Floors 1-6 for every single wing since they’ve opened.

I’m not sure where I messed up with Anima Powers to only have 71 total, I always purchase orbs from the Broker first before any other Anima Power. Like I said, I had minimal issues getting to Floor 18, that’s not the issue, it’s just this boss is just 2 shotting my pet regardless if it’s Ferocity or Tenacity. Not sure what Floor 18 boss you had, but Observer Zelgar is not a fun boss to encounter. His melee and spells chunk my pets and my HP to nothing despite self heals.

But congratz on clearing the floors. :+1:

I did some research on this boss. I’ve fought him before in regular modes. If I remember, the trick is use max range, a cleft hoof (best tank for torg btw) and use all 3 interrupts we have. Also my fight, I really pressed heavy into using mobile TS, using the revive Soulbind person, and using the misdirection right when the boss was about to spike dmg with the 90percent dmg reducing anima.

Which anima dmg reduction you have for pet?

Are you using a clefthoof?

Without the 90% epic or the 25% while monster on trap one the pet gets hit hard.

Do bosses still have that annoying stacking soft enrage buff?

I didn’t have time to look in TC, but I know they did slow it down per level. It use to be almost instantly at level 10.

I killed most bosses in under 30 seconds, except the last few bosses with over a million hp. My last last boss on 17 was 1.5m hp and the final boss was 3.4. Last fight took about 3 minutes based on what I remember of cooldowns.

The bosses in TC are the same bosses as normal Torghast, just scaled significantly more since end boss is 18 floors up versus 6 floors up.

I did this boss an hour ago with my bf, both of us vengeance demon hunter. the boss had 5 millions HP, we killed him with no problems, each of us have a power that takes 10% of boss health each time you interrupt. and some other like hp buff etc. torghast is all about how much powers you get that are usefull.

I appreciate everyone’s advice, I will stow these golden nuggets in my tool bag and re-attempt again another time. These floors just sucked ~2 hrs of my life with 3 cups of coffee, I think I had enough…for now. :sunglasses: :+1:

This could be part of the issue. I can’t be certain because I haven’t done hunter in Torghast but for dk or mage this would be a huge mistake. The 125 costs powers and stat boosts you can buy are usually much greater value than rolling the dice on new anima orbs. The one that only costs 5 phantasma is the obvious exception.

Last night before I realized you can do Floor 6 boss 3 times to get the quest done, I had no problem with the first 12 floors. My wings were, Skoldus Hall (1-6), Soulforges (7-12) and Mort’regar (13-18). I usually never buy a plundering anima cell until the second wing and got the 65% reduce in fire damage to help out the rest of the floors, but for Mort’regar, I wish I had one right away cause 13-14 were a pain to work around the puddles but also dealing with the small platforms you grapple to and one had two elites plus others. Soon as I landed on that platform, I agroed everything right away even with the Bottled Enigma Anima Power.

Now the last boss for floor 18 Mort’regar was Warden of Souls and as a BM hunter, its a pain having to back track your pets to drag the boss out of the increase damage AoE puddle and having to get the adds down before two many spawn and overwhelm you. I had the Trap increase damage and stun, plus the 30% increase in damage while in combat, hero, Tar/Flare, reduce damage traps and I still had trouble with this boss. Keeping an eye out on the fear he cast while making sure he’s not in the puddle, plus taking out adds as a BM Hunter was too much for me no matter how many times I tried different tactics.

Now I did have one useful anima power defense which helped out a lot with the last couple of floors, Chelonian Crest Aspect of the Turtle x 3 which in turn if my pet died, I can pop turtle and revive my pet and keep attacking right away. But still, I think depending on the RNG anima powers and wings you get, the bosses will be easy as a bm hunter or just shut you down.

I encountered the Warden of Souls as well as I’ve fully cleared Mort’egar also this morning. Semi difficult, but with the Anima Powers, self buffs and Hero, he went down pretty easy.

And you’re 100% correct, the Anima Power RNG is “luck” that predicts how well the rest of the runs go. I had most of the defensive Anima Powers to where If I encountered a new enemy, heal for 15k, self and pet damage buff, you name it, 71 Anima Powers is alot to consider, some of them were’ x2-3 the same which helps, but, the fact remains, I gave Observer Zelgar one last attempt before I ran out of lives and just couldn’t get past him 2 shotting my pet. I think this is the most difficult boss I’ve encountered in Torghast thus far, even though I fought Zelgar before on a Floor 6 on a different layer other than TC, he was easily manageable at that time. This time, I dunno, he’s just too chunky. I’ve thrown the kitchen sink at this guy and it’s just beating a brick wall with bare fists.

And yes, I’ve used the Iron Horde Clefthoof (Faultline) against Zelgar most of my attempts, no joy. Just obliterates my pet with Focused Blast in-between Mend Pet because of the 10 sec CD.

My experience is that if you got the Soulsteel pinion (increases your critical strike chance by 100% and critical damage by 100% for 6 sec) and the one that gave your pet 90% dmg reduction while md you will have an easy kill.

Also, I don’t use soulforge ember on bosses, the damage doesn’t scale very well with the anima. I prefer to use Rylakstalker on my boots (20% increased critical damage for pets while beastial wrath is active).

Get the “attack while on aspect of the turtle” and ROFL at bosses.

Well I’m talking about Twisted Corridor Mort’regar 13-18 layer 1. Not regular Mort’regar layers 1-8. One thing about TC is switches between the 6 wings randomly which is why its called twisted corridors. The Warden of Souls had 2.7 mil health when I got to him and yea…even with the increase damage and crit stun anima power, still couldn’t get it down fast enough.

Yea, I had that Anima Power as well. The Intimidation, Misdirect and Hunters Mark Anima Powers to increase damage you and pet are all pretty good for any boss fight.

I maxed out my SFE to 235 helm already, I used to use Fang’s but I guess for this situation, I will have to level up my Fang’s past 210 boots at some point. I like the SFE for the DoT, it’s pretty useful in M+, whereas Fang’s would benefit in TC for Rare’s, Elites and Bosses. I’ll give that a try as well. Thanks!

No one feels bad for hunters. Easy mode beginner class since day 1.

First off, you should be running a single Clefthoof for Torghast. Do not use Animal Companion. Damage (and leech) on the primary pet is reduced by 35% (plus a few unrelated abilities like Spitting Cobra have their damage reduced as well). Plus the Clefthoof has extra armor and a cheat death shield.

Don’t bother searching the tooltip. This information is not there. I’m not even certain all of it is intentional, but I’ve tested it pretty extensively and I can guarantee the 35% damage reduction is definitely there.

Cleftoof+Killer Instinct will give you your best chance of success.
